I’m too poor for a sprinter. And she’s not enough of a sugar momma yet to buy a sprinter;) haha besides, she loves this crusty bus. But she really wants a 911 motor. Probably will have a 911 powered bay before a sprinter haha

Are you going to trade your bay in for a sprinter rusty? I bet the dealer will take it back since it’s so new;) 😘 hahaha

Definitely intimidating at first. I’m still learning a lot. This is my first vw gear box. I’ve just done 644, 741 and 901 Porsche transmissions. But so far I can see all the similarities. Just a few different procedures.

luckily the synchros are available rusty:) no jb weld this time! Haha

Think I found why this transmission got pulled… haha 67F74317-4A12-4D08-B7A7-3F1540F73364F02436D7-37DD-4788-9F47-EE32B5D8FD2Apulled everything apart for the trans and washed it. Checked everything so I know what to order for it tonight. Slowly chipping away…

I love the vintage speed stuff, but it’s a bit too 🤑🤑 for this bus haha

I guess I’ll just buy a stock one offline. Just don’t want it to rust out so fast…

I finally think I figured out a fix for the dipstick tube boot issue. Those new production boots always split within like 10 miles and leak a ton. Better off just duct taping it…. so I cut off the tube on the case side and made it smaller. Like 8mm tube. Matches the tube in the shroud. Now I’ll just run a fuel hose with hose clamps between the two. Should last a lot longer than the boots. 84B3650D-B556-49C1-A55E-77036986C47ED9940852-3306-43C9-BA96-90A85719677F

Figure I’d pull the exhaust and heater boxes and put new seals in it to be sure there is no more exhaust leak. Really only leaking oil out of the dipstick tube boot 🙄 and the oil pressure sender. I’ll replace those and clean this up a bit and then put it back together when the tin comes back. Should be a happy camper.

jack said “ man, that must’ve had a lot of miles since you rebuilt it”

I said, nah, just every trip it has taken has been to the desert. Red dirt everywhere!!! Haha truly is and always will  be a Moab bus.

anyone have recommendations on where to get an exhaust? I’ve heard you can just put a 72 exhaust on it since we don’t need any of the emissions stuff anymore. To keep it simple. Any brand better than another? Her last exhaust rusted super fast and had holes in it causing an exhaust leak

Gotta get that trans to match the motor now…

buses always end up giving you more good times than bad in the long run. Just have to get through some bad to get the really good.

Going to be lots of fun. And it’s going to suck. In all the good ways haha. Hopefully with the motor and trans done it’ll go smooth.

Not yet. I ended up actually working yesterday.

and we decided to send her tin out to powder coating since we have another batch going out this week. Make it all pretty.

I also thought I had shoes and pads for it… but I messed up and bought earlier bay shit. I guess it’s not the same?… hahaha I don’t know. Need to order up that stuff now.

Welp. Finally biting the bullet. Emilee started to get really excited about camping in her bus, but the thing needs a bit of tlc before she can go romping off into the woods alone haha. Main complaint, she hates that it smells like gas so bad…. the breathers on top of the tank leak so bad if you fill the tank full… so out with the engine to get to the tank.

while it’s out I’m going to do a few other things. Seems like the input shaft is leaking a bit, as well as the damn dipstick tube boot again. I saw a way you can fix it on the samba and you don’t have to use the crappy boots. Going to try that. I am also going to check the brakes and put new brake hoses on it. They are looking very stiff haha. New exhaust too. It has a leak from some rust. A few things and she will be on her way. 7C31BA80-0AD9-4581-A2ED-EB3C201FE506EE66F54E-AA7B-4D9E-A4D3-C0D915C752078434C829-3AEC-4055-ABF0-B6927AF939CD3E0FB964-6B0C-48A5-8083-8528C9E230A2F1B56505-BE1C-4041-AC05-5633B2798352C9D4AC22-0DB5-46E0-9C1B-632B0B3DFF6F

That is it. But bus depot doesn’t show it out of stock… I tried to order it a couple weeks ago and then I called a week later after it still said processing and they said it’s “back ordered with no eta”. 🙄Seems a bit weird companies can take your money and then just not contact you saying it’s back ordered. Almost like they were hoping I’d forget and just keep my money when we all know they aren’t producing them anymore haha
