in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54730
Thanks everyone. Buddy of mine is making me a new top triple clamp and bar risers. Instead of sweeping back, the bars will now be straight up. We’re starting off at 3” on the risers, and can shorten if needed. With the foot pegs lowering and risers, it should give me a comfortable riding position while standing.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54694Made a new airbox today out of thin ply and balsa. Right now it is 4oz. The stock airbox on the left is over a pound. I still have to seal the wood and paint it black.

Ben where can I find these?
I had the name wrong, it’s actually Butty’s Bits. https://www.buttysbits.com/product-category/bay-window/throttle-kits/

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54653Since skid plates are all the rage at KCW these days, thought I’d join the party. Made out of 3/16″ aluminum. Need to do some corner and edge dress up, some lightening holes; then it will be complete.
Also finished up my exhaust pipe. Short and stubby, just like me. 🙂

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54547Got the rear fender mounts welded on and mounted the fender. Foot pegs fully welded in place, looks like 2″ lower than stock. Stabbed the engine back in so I can start fabbing a new air box, rear exhaust/muffler/spark arrestor, and skid plate. Almost ready for some frame paint.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54495Got back from Phoenix an hour ago. Very nice salvage yard. I saw stuff I needed, stuff I don’t, but want anyway. I didn’t find the front forks I was looking for, but got some heavier springs for the forks I have. I see many more trips to this place in my future.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54451Try Bobs Used Motorcycle Parts in Phoenix. Staff was sharp and helpful….although it was a while back. Number in my notebook is 602-437-3148 and I’d guess that is still viable.
Driving up tomorrow to check it out. Hopefully find what I’m looking for.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54422First pic shows my new lower foot peg location. Middle pic is the stock location. Last pic is some bracing to keep the peg plates from bending inward. I used pieces cut of the old rear frame loop. This should give me a better fit between pegs and handle bars for my 6’6″ height. It will also lower the center of gravity of the bike. Tomorrow, I’ll mount the peg brackets, then start mock-up with the engine and swing arm in place.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54390I know Ty’s Re/Cycle in Longmont probably does.
Thanks, I’ll look him up, and give a call. I’ll comb all the usual on-line sources as well. Tucson doesn’t have a motorcycle junk yard any more. Went from three to none. I here Phoenix has a big one, I’ll have to hijack my wife’s car, cruise up and check it out.
I was also looking at moving my pegs down at least. I got room to drop 3″ if I choose. I think it would be way more stable that way.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54374Swing arm all cleaned up. Cut out one inch and re-welded.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54357Swiss Cheese, or ready for church(you know, cause it’s all Holy). Frame was 21.8lbs., now 20lbs. Lost half a pound with just the holes. Bottom frame loops and rear fender loop was the other 1.2 pounds. Going to shorten the swing arm next.
Newbold, you wouldn’t happen to have pictures of the TL you modified. I’d like to see what you did with the foot pegs and steering rake. I modified the rake on my old TL back in the day. Can’t remember what the final number was. Stock is 26degrees. I hear the number 21degrees thrown around on another you-tube channel I subscribe to on a Beezer C15 unit trials. Also, you wouldn’t happen to have a MT/MR250 front fork and wheel laying around? They are 1″ longer than the TL, has a bigger brake, and heavier spring rate.

in reply to: Ben’s Honda TL250 trials #54351Had to stop for a baloney and cheese samich. Got one side of the frame filled with lightening holes, cut of the rear fender hoop, and a few mount tabs for the side covers I won’t be using. Getting on the other side in a few. Also going to loose the lower frame cradles, and weld in some tabs for an aluminum skid plate.
