The BEST Bus on Earth!

 

I was having a hard time getting the BBOE to shift into gear when the engine was running, so I played with the clutch free play and got it to at least let me put it into first or reverse. But it would grind a bit  when going into gear and would start to move on me even with my foot pushing the clutch all the way in. I emailed JJ and he said to check the whole clutch cable for any frays and the clutch cable tube to make sure the welds hadn’t busted off or anything. I checked all that and it all seemed fine. Played with the clutch free play some more and still wasn’t right. So JJ gave the go ahead and I pulled the engine. First time doing it and man was that intimidating. JJ wrote me some good instructions though… ha! I pulled the engine and took some photos of the throw out bearing and all parts of the clutch and sent them off to JJ (Ill post those below). When we talked on the phone after that he said everything looked fine… So I was super confused but we still decided it would be best just to replace everything since I already had the engine out. I grabbed a clutch kit and new clutch cable in Salt Lake and installed it all and put the engine back in. Took me a while but I got it done! I still don’t know exactly what was wrong but now the BBOE is shifting like a dream! Im psyched it all worked out!

a shot from redding friday…. The BBOE… and Johnny… “Master blaster” cleaning up the OG spare tire tray for the Beige Barndoor!

I really love this bus…  Kevin and cole both told me this was like driving a “regular car” compared the non interior’d Barndoor… 😀  😀

My little brother Reed, 16(who’s actually isn’t that little. He’s about my height or a bit taller 6’4”) got a little friendly with another car in his high school parking lot and the ladder didn’t make it out alive… haha!

Nice work pat.? do I need to give u guys some lessons on how to drive a vintage Vw bus(Cole and his bros drive it like they stole it. U gotta drive slow in parking lots and check your mirrors frequently don’t be paying attention to that tight ass next to u while your driving. Both hands on the wheel ?

BBOE getting the love over here.. I suspect this rig will be done tonight or tomorrow.. 😎  Unless there is other stuff???  Been doing valves on this one cole?? Or should clean shop give it a look over?  Oil??  well look at the color… 😎  Pearl White before  lunch! 😎

I think the last valves I did was right before Moab and the oil was when it was there last… so it’s up to pat and franz. It’s been a little while. Never hurts, but I can do it too when it gets home
