I figured I’d make a thread for all my other smaller projects too.
I’ve been working a bit on getting our 76 Westy ready for my mom to drive with or dog Kula to BBB. Its likely just going to be the 2 of them so making sure it runs smoothly for them will be important. I gently power washed the top end and blasted the bottom clean. Been working on checking all the major systems. We had a little fuel leak the other day where it was squirting out of one of the connections. It just ended up being a loose connection instead of a cracked line, so it was an easy fix.
Other than that I unclogged the smaller of these brown breather lines and cleaned out the inside of the distributor.
The wiring for our secondary battery and inverter drives me insane. All the wiring in the engine bay, well maybe the whole bus, it sucks. I hate it. I really would like to rip it all out and start over, but I know thats waayy above my capabilities and would take forever. For now I’m just focusing on cleaning this area up and making it functional.
I also had these seats redone recently and just put them in. We know its the wrong plaid for this color, but the PO had chosen it for the rear seats and we kinda like the blue anyway.John JonesKeymasterDecember 28, 2017 at 3:31 pmPost count: 6423

I thought we were putting lawn chairs on the Sky Lounge!?! Haha we’re planning on figuring that out ?
The fact that I am mom’s mechanic is scary, but there is motivation for me to make sure its all working so I’m not sleeping on the ground!John JonesKeymasterDecember 30, 2017 at 6:27 amPost count: 6423

Tire pressures are all crazy low, and found a little leak right before the catalytic converter. Not something I’m going to try and tackle right now. Probably worry more about it when it comes time to get this thing smogged next year.RustabusParticipantDecember 31, 2017 at 11:58 amPost count: 1893

Sad this is only 1 page still… I’ve been working on lots of stuff since the bay.
This has been my project for a few days.
I’ll get some proper after shots when I’m finished, but so far I’ve repaired some body damage on the cargo door and rocket, fixed the middle seat, painted safari tabs, cleaned and rebuilt the front end, and added some 15s and new BFGs. The Wolfsburg West 15s are killer by the way.
Painting safaris next and adding heater boxes if I have time. Then I think this will be ready to ripppp!!!John JonesKeymasterNovember 24, 2019 at 9:47 amPost count: 6423
Looking good Willy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😎WillyModeratorNovember 24, 2019 at 2:55 pmPost count: 1058
Safaris and mirror arms came out perfect. A little annoying that I couldn’t nail parts that well on my Westy!!John JonesKeymasterNovember 25, 2019 at 6:36 amPost count: 6423

Yeah, I had lots of little things to fix on this one.
Cargo door and rocker repaired
Seats bolted down properly
Safari tabs painted
Safaris and mirror arms painted
Pop out latches fixed
Front end “rebuild” with new torsion springs in the front along with new seals and such
AND the best was the 15s and the BFGs.
Still need to give it a little tune-up and I think it’ll be good to go.
