My redux box bolts keep coming loose cause the kid that put them In forgot lock tight. Also my mid mount lost its hardware on one side… I feel like my front wheel bearings might have gotten water in them also sitting in the water for 2 hours….

sorry to hear about your troubles on this adventure, but hey, I’ve enjoyed following along thru all the awesome photos. Not sure if the distributor is for marine applications 🤪 but if anyone is gonna find the weak link in anything it’s gonna be JJ on SST. 😎 keep it real man and be safe, hope to catch up soon.NotchyoursParticipantFebruary 3, 2020 at 5:24 pmPost count: 133
Looks like a great adventure JJ. I bet Cole had a blast. Guess he fixed his broken valve spring? How about you Glen, think you wa nt to play again? I sure missed going. We should really try to make this year’s trip to Moab a non highway event.John JonesKeymasterFebruary 4, 2020 at 9:12 amPost count: 6463
We went to Creig Letchers place in weaverville and fixed our shit up!! I fixed my leaking ass sump, we borrowed a valve spring tool from Wolfgang and changed Coles valve spring.. Then drove the tool back down to Wolfgang… and then parted ways… We started towards Mitch’s place and Cole and Seth headed North to oregon…
as usual… a rack broke on Shasta.. Coles!!! So it,s on top of my rack coming back to KCW for some welding.. it broke 4 of the six legs …
Both of the busses are running perfect! I am about to go see Jim Cusato and then head to Spencer hot springs again…
Freedom. 😎John JonesKeymasterFebruary 4, 2020 at 9:16 amPost count: 6463

Looks like a blast, except for that rolling the single cab down the hill part.
Cole’s heads seem like they would be better suited as a door stop.

I’m sure you guys have read it, but this book: https://www.amazon.com/Baja-Bugs-Buggies-VW-based-off-road/dp/0895861860 Has some practical setup tips for Baja’s and off-road VW’s in general. Everything from suspension to first aid. I’m sure some of it is dated material but it makes for some good reading.GlennmossModeratorFebruary 5, 2020 at 11:01 amPost count: 208

SST! Holy shit! I’m so glad I went! I have never spent that many consecutive days in a split bus. I loved it! Got to do it with a childhood best friend, Seth and his pup Lucy(who I’m sure a lot of you met when I watched her last year) and JJ! He’s one of the best people to road trip with! also, glad I got to finally meet Glenn! I’m glad he came on the trip, he took lots of amazing photos and videos! Can’t wait to see what he has on his camera. It was hard for me to take pics during the SST days. You kindof forget to when you’re hauling ass and having a good time.
It scared the shit out of me when JJ finally rolled up to Spencer and there was an ambulance behind JJ. I had no clue what was going on… haha glad it was just Glenn! I will definitely be back to Spencer…onto Nevada City! Where we met up with Sarah. She has a beautiful home!first buses to the Rampage Spot!Kettenpom Store. Only gas for miles. We camped near here. Very beautiful this is what happens when you try to pass JJ and get too close… he roosts your ass… thought I was going to lose a windshield. Luckily just a headlight lense.Where we stayed in Mt Shasta. You can see JJ’s oil leak. This was the morning I found out I broke a valve spring… we came into camp at 1:30am and I thought my valves sounded loose. So I decided I’d do a valve adjustment in the morning. That’s when I found my 2nd cylinder exhaust valve has broken… time for a tow to Craig Letchers.luckily even with a busted motor I was still able to hop in with JJ and have lots of fun getting stuck! He got this buried probably 6 times! So funThe snow in SST really hit the last day in Mt Shasta Teamwork!Wolfgang International let me borrow their vw spring compressor tool. I was able to replace the spring without pulling the motor. Was a super quick and easy job once I got the tool! we stayed our last night at summer lake hot springs in southern Oregon. Super nice and we were the only ones there. 20 bucks to camp sucked… but the water felt super nice with it being 10 degrees outside…. took a long time for my bus to start that last morning…. I was worried I was going to blow my oil filter. So I put my propane heater underneath my motor for 20 min and it started a lot easier! Had to keep foot on the clutch until it warmed up or else it would die! Fun figuring all that out. The last 200 miles of my trip I had to go 30 mph… the highway was all black ice. Some of the worst conditions I’ve ever seen. soooo much longer than it should’ve taken… my back still hurts from the drive. I was so gripped! Glad we made it safe.I ended up doing just over 3000 miles. I think 13 nights in the bus. So fun! Glad I went. Definitely will go again next year! I was already talking to Loren about a route for next year. Needs to be more technical. Everyone gets through no matter what! Even if we have to dig and push. Team work! Everyone should come on this trip! I love my split bus.VwfoolParticipantFebruary 7, 2020 at 10:24 amPost count: 289
