The Ol’ DC is still running as good as ever…. I’ve lost count, but it’s waaaay past 40k miles by now. I can’t believe it’s been 9 years since y’all built this badass road-tripper for me. Still going strong!!!ScottyGParticipantApril 5, 2018 at 7:22 pmPost count: 9
I’ll trade a couple of KCW stickers for a few of these… I’ll even do a 2 for 1 deal 🙂John JonesKeymasterApril 8, 2018 at 7:28 amPost count: 5910
Pretty awesome Scotty….. I still plan on visiting your place some time… 😎ScottyGParticipantApril 9, 2018 at 6:30 amPost count: 9
Anytime, John… It would be great to see you again. I daydream sometimes about me and Carl driving her back up to KCW…. maybe next year for a 10-year build anniversary?? Hmmmm…….BBWBParticipantApril 10, 2018 at 9:30 amPost count: 737

Damn! It’s been ten years already. I remember seeing this DC in it’s unrestored condition at KCW.
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.ScottyGParticipantApril 1, 2019 at 10:42 amPost count: 9
Well… It’s officially the 10-year anniversary for this badass build. The first couple of pics are from a little roadtrip last weekend. The last pic is from 2009.
She still back-pegs the speedo with ease! The odometer hangs up from time to time, so I’m not sure on the exact number, but it’s somewhere way above 40,000 miles. Same combo, same torquey 2387 Tractor motor. Very few changes since I picked it up in April 2009, mainly because it doesn’t need any changes!
I’ve added a few cars to my collection over the years, but this one is still my favorite!John JonesKeymasterApril 1, 2019 at 11:05 amPost count: 5910
Thats pretty freakin RAD Scotty!!!! and you have driven the shit out of it also!!!!! were going to have to get you and Mike together sometime!!! two awesome DC’s in Texas!!!! I bet you have put the most amount of miles on a KCW build!!!!mdubgParticipantApril 1, 2019 at 4:14 pmPost count: 291
Scotty, when I was thinking of trying to hack my way through my resto, I found your build thread on the (old) KCW site. That’s how I ended up just sending my Crew Cab to KCW. The fact that these guys do amazing work and have the transparency to post it all is truly unique.
What part of Texas are you in? I’m in Frisco. Once mine’s done, we’ll have to get the Doubles side by side at a Texas VW event. It’ll be KCW Restoratations 2009 and 2019.ScottyGParticipantApril 2, 2019 at 5:51 amPost count: 9
Mike… that’s a cool story!! Glad my build gave you the nudge to turn it over to KCW. They did me right. I had been out of the scene for many years, and wanted to get back in. They got me back in in a BIG way!
I haven’t been on the site in a while. Wasn’t aware of your build…. gonna be nice! I’m a big L31 fan, but Pearl Grey is a great choice, too. Always cool to see another early DC getting built. And you’ll be in Texas, too 🙂 I’m in Orange, TX… way down in the SE corner near the coast, so I’m at least 300+ miles South of you. I do get up to the Dallas area often, though.
DubSplash is Apr 27-28 near Joe Pool Lake in the Dallas area… you going? I recently got a nice DOKA with a sweet GTI engine swap that I was planning to drive… but I could be persuaded to roll the DC 🙂John JonesKeymasterApril 2, 2019 at 6:14 amPost count: 5910
That was a great road trip to Texas with you Scotty!!!!!!!!! My son Zack was with me…. and he will remember that forever!!!! We only stayed at the texas classic for about 20 minutes,,, then we started driving home… 😎
Proud of your truck Scotty!!!!! A Lot of the reason it still looks sooo good is I know you are passionate about keeping it up…. Thanks!ScottyGParticipantApril 2, 2019 at 6:54 amPost count: 9
No doubt… forever-memories. I could go on & on. We blasted like 1400+ miles in 2 days??!! Remember running through wide open New Mexico, all by ourselves, no other traffic, rolling 70-80 side-by-side for an ENTIRE tank of gas? Unforgettable trip. You, Zack, Me, and Carl 🙂RustabusParticipantApril 2, 2019 at 7:25 amPost count: 1762

Crap that’s coming up. I went last year. It’s a cool event. I’ll be there, obviously the DC won’t.ScottyGParticipantApril 2, 2019 at 8:03 amPost count: 9
New location for DubSplash this year, and earlier in the year. Should be a little cooler weather in April. Dallas in July can be 100+ degrees!DaKineParticipantApril 2, 2019 at 10:29 amPost count: 9
