I seem to have a hazy memory of cleaning that original fuel line out with a clutch cable on a drill….I know we didn’t swap hardline. Tank only got a swish out…don’t think it looked bad tho? Stock old 36 would sip fuel through a pinhole and be happy as a clam hahahhaa!

It’s running beautifully, but not after a weekend chasing electrical gremlins.  It was brutal….was ready to throw a car cover over on it and let it sit for a few weeks.  Had a bitch of a time just getting it to turn over.  Cleaned battery ground, trans ground, starter connections, etc.  Thought maybe I had a bad ignition switch, but finally got it turning over nicely.

Plugs were very foul so I took out the 60 idles and tried 55’s, was good but still had that slight flooding/bogging feeling between 2500 and 2800 rpms at 1/4 throttle. Put in 52.5’s (with the 122 mains) and it’s perfection at full throttle, 1/2, 1/4, etc.  cruises nicely, not a single pop from the carbs.  Seems to have more idle mix adjustment with the 52.5’s.  Didn’t mess with the wideband….don’t have the patience for that at the moment.

    Thanks Franz.

I liked the look of the cloth spark plug wires I had originally bought, but didn’t like the reviews.  They were 7mm, and prone to arcing.  They just felt kind of cheap too.

I found an 8mm solid silicone core, USA-made cloth wire, sold by the foot, from a motorcycle parts company called Lowbrow Customs.  So I decided to make my own.  Added bonus is I can cut each one to an exact fit around manifolds and whatnot.  8mm wire on left, 7mm pre-made on right.

Lowbrow wire is good. I have used it before. Glad you got it running well!!! Plus it makes since why it ran good on the test stand

Just because.  🙂  Have I ever mentioned that Franz nailed this build?  🙂  I freaking love it.

Pete skip the wideband and just work from the plugs. Run a touch rich to keep your engine safe and cool in your hot humid climate

No issues with the shortened filters and the springs?

Nope!  5/8″ removed from the filters did the trick, springs clear with an 1/8″ to spare.  K&N also makes a 4.5″ x 7″ oval filter that is a little less than 3″ in height so I have something better than just the foam insert.
