Funny you mention that; the VS exhaust has sensor inputs on each side built in to it. 😁

Good thing you have Mr. Sain and his Infinite knowledge.

Say what? I know enough to get one started and that’s it!

How many cars you bringing Saturday? Looks like the high is supposed to only be in the 50’s. Should make for some interesting racing.

Sorry for the highjack Pete. Maybe I will get to see your ghia next month. Trying to talk my wife into a ride down to Orangeburg.

New mains were on the doorstep this evening so I immediately pulled the 122’s, put the 128’s in, and went for a drive.  Seems to have done the trick! 👍

Ha!  I’ve asked him if he could check behind me when he’s back in town.

I ruined some Vintage Speed air filters tonight by cutting 1/2” out of them to clear the springs.  Right side could use another 1/8” out of it, but otherwise they seem to work. #hack

I did have The Bald One helping me.  Cookie I have a little VW altar in my garage that I pray/meditate in front of whenever I get stumped.  Answers usually come quickly when you light some incense, put on some of Plane Jane’s greatest hits, and focus your VW question towards this little statue of Scott I bought on the internet:

Someone told me Wednesday night that I’ve put on some weight. If I wouldn’t have had a hot wing in my hand I would have slapped him.

Still more work to do.  Ran beautifully out to Kiawah, terrible on way home.  Had to stop twice, briefly considered towing.  Going to pull all jets and hit with carb cleaner and blow out.  Also have not heard great reviews on the cloth spark plug wires; love the look, but going to ditch them.

pull the plugs first before junking the wires and cleaning the carbs. see how the plugs are burning

distributors cause a lot of weird things….   Just for the sake of trying… You might throw a regular ol 009 that you KNOW is good and a blue coil, you know is good…. and try that… Just a suggestion.  I guess them wires that you are suspect of also…  And fresh plugs!  Then you could rule out ignition problem, or know exactly where the problem is… 😎

Thanks John, great suggestions.  I’m going to try wires first since they seem to get suspect reviews, then plugs, then coil, etc.  I have a couple extra coils and a rebuilt 009 (edit – actually I’m going to try the condenser and coil first – the symptoms fit those two being faulty).

I pulled all of the jets today, took apart and cleaned thoroughly with carb cleaner.  Also cleaned carb tops and inside of filter housings well, and ordered some K&N’s to use behind the wire mesh rather than the foam.  Then put heat shrink tubing on the harness and cleaned it up; when extending the harness I sourced OG wires so the colors match up the wiring diagram.  Put the green dizzy-to-coil ground in the harness to keep things clean….I like it.

Lost the throttle cable barrel nut into the abyss to will have to test drive it later. ☹️  It idles and revs nicely FWIW.

    Pictures just because:

Nice. No plastic covered crimp on connectors. As everyone should do.

Looking good. Maybe the 128s were too big an fouled the plugs.
