Get’n Mike’s 66 dialed in.
Installed the new 5.5 wheels, Vredersein 185/70 tires, sway bar, aligned the front end, raised the rear suspension, and fixed a driver axle leak.
Looking good and driving well. It has been raining all day.
Does Mike check the Forums???? He will likely laugh at this old memory!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀
Mark… your type 3 is missing a door this morning…. 😎
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
Well this last week has been quite the trying week on the parkway projects. It was also a learning lesson. Long story short Grand junction volkswagen dealership here had this 68 vert for a year and could not get it to run right. So the service manager called me and asked if I could get it running right. I said sure. The car has a new replacement long block 1600 in it from one of thoes cheap california engine builders. So after messing with it all week trying to get it to run right, I had a buddy suggest a leak down test. Well that was my lesson learned… I should have started with the leak down test. Turned out cylinder #3 was down about 20%. I’m assuming a shitty valve job was done or they burt a valve in it. Either way I had to return the car back to vw so they can then get the motor warranty situation figured out.
Next was the super clean 70 baywindow that has the Porsche 912 motor swapped in it. So after trying to fix the small body 6v housing wound to a 12v, we just got a regular big body 12v generator. Well I then had to get a backing plate and the correct generator stand. I got then in and then I needed MORE parts to make this work. So I needed a fan, fan hub and another piece I was missing from the bought backing plate. So as a last ditch effort franz had a 68 baywindow fan backing plate that we ended up using, I made a custom fan hub on the lathe, then I finally got this bus back together and shipped.
type 3’s suck…
Gross!!! Do we have a dirty shopper who will touch these???[/quote]
I was talking to JJ this morning about my and his above comments about Marks T3, and I realized something, #T3LM. I’m sorry Mark if I offended you. #T3LMSTRONG
Finished burning in the pass side seat base section. Ground welds, sanded & seam sealed top & bottom sides.
Epoxy sealed and %60 single stage laid down.
Pulled the rear hatch to replace the buggered driver side hinge.
P.S. your pass door bottom hinge was fucked!! So I’m fixing it.
We will build it if it comes.
Wow, great progress thanks! Were the other doors Chris sent with the car no better?
BTW: I like Bay Windows so I’m pretty hard to offend 😘

The other doors are great. The doors on the car are just as solid.
The biggest problem is both lower hinges are frozen. That’s what F’d up the hinge mount on the car, which is what I have to fab/weld, not the door hinge.
Im soaking the lower hinge of the door that came off the car with WD-40. If I cannot get it to loosen up I will start on the other door.
We will build it if it comes.
I’ve always liked Type 3s; here are a couple of my old ones I sold way too cheap 12 years ago…
LOVE THAT NOTCH!!!! So I was gonna pull the axles and tubes off of this Bus tranny real quick to send off to Painters for a rebuild… Uh, seems like my pocket knife and Leatherman aren’t gonna cover my tool list!!! Parkway Project!!!!!😀😀😩
