Progress on the 36hp fan shroud, welded Porsche bits on, and modifying linkage to fit VW throttle location.

Got this 73 super in this afternoon for an alternator change out, fixing the warning lights, and installing some new bushings in the rear suspension.

I finished Chris’ reversed Porsche linkage to 36hp fan shroud conversion magic.

Silver soldered the linkage pieces back together like stock.

Yo Jesse, up on the lift and fluid’s dropped. Thinking we should slam some 1.5” heater boxes on and install the heater control mech. It would be interesting to see if your 220 temps drop.

Also, looks like the driver side axle is leaking. And a couple flakes out of the engine. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds good franz. Hook up the heater and some heater boxes with a bigger opening. To stop the buildup of heat off my heads. Also my right turning radius was small and the left is big if u could adjust unless we wait for tires to get here then alignment and adjust. Damm suck about the metal in my oil. Once we got to cooler temp outside the motor temp was down to 212.

I’m curious about the empty larger pipe, 1 1/2 heater box…. Drive home fast and check the temp… good for science!

I have them in the ragtop. They make decent heat. I don’t think it will be enough for a Colorado winter. I thought about dropping a bunch of big ball bearings in mine to see if they would help!

Yeah she’s ready to go. Heads retorqued, valves adjusted. 1.5” heater boxes, all intake/exhaust bolts torqued, driver axle seal, filter, engine, transaxle, and RGB oil changed.

I also got the heater cable tubes cleaned and a control mech welded in with some sleeves. Even dabbed some dove blue on. Just like a real 58 walk-thru. You’ll have to find a mech and install the cable tomorrow.

So I made it home and my temp was 195. Usually it’s like 205. I kep the heater closed and went 63mph the whole way home. Checked the temp franz after I pulled the hill at 60 it was 194. Lost my phone at that pit stop and had to go back at 2 am to look for it on the side of the road. Found it and me and krewella cruised home at 65 with our heads out the window as I try not to fall asleep 🤣

^^^🤣🤣🤣 Been there, done that. Left my debit card in a gas pump about a month ago.

Sounds like the bigger heater boxes are working.

Are you guys taking in mechanical work these day or just custom restorations?

My 73 bug has a Kuhltek 009 distributor, with Petronix I think, and I read that they’re not reliable.

When built the motor had a vacuum advance dizzy and I don’t know how it ended up with a centrifigul.

Have you had time to take that SIDEHILL rig out and cover some ground with it yet ?
