Soaked the bottom hinge all weekend with WD40. Chemicals were a no go so I had to apply some heat.7ECD8F6C-3F5C-4263-9F4F-9AFFC1EFA28A6C090B32-8EAF-437C-88CE-F93E7A6C088C

All good after some heat. 563DC341-F8B7-42BA-8650-0082989D0E72C0BAF13E-5908-4D13-AE15-40B7F62DADF0

Dissected the lower hinge mount bits that were still attached to the car. E0D0C8F3-1D51-4724-BF17-B2F5C7D19E6CFC1C4625-AC9F-4771-8664-29EBB3801D78

Welded all the parts back together.

All the bits back in place. Sanded and epoxy sealed. D7B49D8E-AFCB-409F-8117-2A57B4EEDCC0C97625E4-E675-4BC9-9F80-758B3BDAD7B6C233D60E-C7C2-4FC1-A490-CF56E590DC964F69B83B-6253-41CE-B831-FF143B7E6CDD

Bolted everything back where it belonged.

Rear hatch needs parts before we can fix it. Both small pivot pins and the mid arm are all buggered. 5DA3E3DE-FE0B-4536-9AC4-827FB46EA44BA7AE6E7C-1E18-4430-9E91-AA24DDA4328BF9F25F81-5157-40C1-8FC4-8AE81AA3B348

    Needed bits Mark. Make sense?3537EEBE-E335-426B-9B40-A8EC1C38C3A2

We will build it if it comes.

We got this 78 super in for lots of work. Guy dropped it off and simply said ” it needs to be good enough for my wife to daily drive it” I said ok. So I’m going thru all the systems front to back. So far I’ve replaced the fuel injectors and seals, once I did that she fired right up and sounded good. But I then found the return fuel line in the pan was leaking in the tunnel, so I ran a new line down the side of the car. I simply added to the existing evap line brackets so it still looks kinda OEM I suppose. Then it was onto a full rebuild of the brake system. I should have the brakes wrapped up today. The front trunk hinges where very bent and unfortunately we have zero spare super parts around here, so I’m going to ditch the springs all together and just order some gas lift struts and go that route. Then I’ll move onto getting the stereo he has all installed.  Once I’m done with it, it will be off to an interior guy to get a new top, door cards, and carpet kit.

Mark has been a ghost since Pat got all that awesome work done..     Lets get that rear hatch on before it starts raining and snowing…

I think, some tube could be welded in them hinges to fix em??  and new pins??  Some fabrication, but what else you going to do?

Been away at my Dad’s place up north for a few days; not seen them in nearly a year because of Covid. I have a plan to repair the hinges and make new pins once the car gets here 🤙🏼

Just lay the back seat flat and put it in there…wouldn’t want tape to pull the paint off 😓

Yeah, cause that’s what we do with squarebacks! Throw the fucking motor in the cargo area too while you are at it! It’s a type 3!!

I’m surprised you don’t want to get it back on somehow before it gets shipped out…  Your choice though,,,,  I wouldn’t want to hurt your paint either.

The least I can do is weld the hatch on for ya.😉 A solid bead all the way around should suffice.
