Welded my brain’s out yesterday. I was killing it…laying some beautiful caterpillars. About an inch at a time to prevent the metal from getting too hot.

Tubes fully welded and gussets going in. Still have like 10 more gussets to do. DSCF0598

Working on Baird’s engine today. I had some time to acid etch and alodine coat the fan housing.

Transaxle installed, fully detailed with one piece axle boot, restored OG hardware, and new nuts/washers.

Check out this heater box. It had rust holes from the inside into the fresh air…would have been pumping exhaust into the car with the heat on. I’ll have to order a replacement today….I can’t weld that.

Wow..  that cage is incredible…  mike must plan on railing the fuck outta that thing!!!!   You guys are doing a great job on a project we were reluctant to even start… looks like things turned around…

franz knows how how I feel about hiring more guys..  I have no desire to manage other men…   I barely even want to work..  BARELY!!!!!!!!   I’ve met all my goals in life..  I’m satisfied to say the least..  I’ve built a big self sufficient machine that just keeps rolling on!!!!   Someone really should buy it from me… and take it to the next level..  8-). But unlikely…

i think you are gonna have to say no to some things… and keep in mind it’s not the end of the world if some things don’t get done….  keep money in the bank so you guys get paid and you can keep writing checks… 8-). I wish money wasn’t  so fucking important in life…

Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎

After working with you for many years, you’ve pretty much given me the knowledge and freedom to run the shop. Thank you.

Its unlikely that I’m going want to work with/for someone else…and we both know that building VW’s isn’t all about the tools. If you really want KCW to continue on. You and I need to work a deal.

Being an employee has its benefits too. I’m down for whatever.

But I gotta say that I am ready for new challenges….I’m hungry for it.

This is me putting my nose where it’s not been invited.  🙂  But the CPA in me can’t resist….  🙂

Franz leases the KCW land & equipment for XX per month from John.  Franz also pays John a set percentage of KCW revenue for the next ten years as payment for the business.  After 10 years Franz owns KCW and it’s goodwill outright, John continues collecting rent on his commercial property investment for as long as KCW is a tenant.  This way John has recurring “retirement” income, and Franz is free to manage and grow (or maintain) KCW on whatever course he desires to provide for his family.  I’d only caution that you have to view KCW as a pie, and there’s likely only so many ways to cut it up so both parties can thrive.  If John feels like he’s not getting enough on the sale/lease, or if Franz is too burdened with high payments to John and can’t get ahead then it won’t work over the long haul.  If you do a deal be fair/realistic with each other.

Oh, and Biard’s engine looks great.  I really dig the alodine and bakelight dizzy cap…gives it really nice vintage look.

Yeah that is where we got the last time we were talking about all this. The lease deal sounds ok.

But, JJ lives here. He has a big ol’ house out back…. That kind of complicates things, and the way the pie crumbles.

I think the Jones’ would like big sum so that they can be free to do whatever they want. Move closer to their children, build a new house/shop ect.

Here is what I keep going over in my head. It seems like Jones would like to keep a part of KCW, I mean they built it, it has a good brand/outlet…there are ways to capitalize on that. I’m not trying to market stuff.

I want to build race cars. We could start KCWr as my thing…..Jones keeps regular KCW, website, and reputation that he has built, just down-size the resto shop portion of it.

We work a deal for me to buy the major tools and parts. I pay lease on 2/3 of the shop. JJ keeps doing what he does, until we’re ready to re-negotiate. This will help me get going and get comfortable, while giving JJ some work space and the freedom to not be involved in the day to day.

Franz is no doubt the man to own the place..  and I think a deal will be struck in time.  But I’m not in any hurry to get rid of anything I have… Just the burdens of being in charge..    love my shop, my tools and my house.   Which, keep in mind could easily become more shop space for a new program.. race shop.. 8-).

801 Kimball is the best location on earth to restore a VW and its where KCW has to stay…   the location is awesome..
