Dan Sterner, I have a new ignition switch here for your bus. Bring it down if you want to.

Getting Dan ready for bbb this today. Looks like the battery is dead-dead.

I think we installed the main battery in 2015.

I got a new battery from Hensley, changed all the fuel hose, installed a new fuel pump, and new ignition switch.

Just started-up. Its running on all 4, but I noticed the driver side #3#4 head is loose and banging around a bunch. I’m going to try re-torqueing it to see if it’ll seal up.

I think it’s time for new battery… and it needs some more love too… Franz got it fired up and…… it Sounds like the heads are coming off…

Re-torqued the heads and adjusted valves….its much better, but still leaking. We should probably pull the engine and take the heads off. They probably need flycut to re-seal correctly.

I’m kind of over the leaking part. I’d rather get the bus ready for the next event in February.  I can enjoy BBB sleeping in the overflow parking in my truck.

I take it apart tomorrow.  We’ll see what it needs.

The head sealing surface is eroded. Looks like it got hot. I’m worried that the guides or seats may come loose if we rebuild these. I say order new heads and piston/cylinder kit. Probably should ditch the stock 1 3/8” heater boxes in favor of some 1 1/2” to help with the overheating issue.

Two thin layers of paper glued together on this intake gasket. I have seen a few of these fail lately. From Econo motor parts inc. Maybe related to heat… But I know the stock steel ones won’t have this problem next time. 😉

looks like the oil cooler seals are leaking too.

I inspected the short block. It looks good. The bearing all feel tight, end play is good, lifters and cam have a some wear, but nothing to condemn.

Check out MikeK’s fresh rebuild. Could be ready for Havasu, and it’s pretty close by.

Just ordered empi big valve heads and thick wall 92mm piston/liner kit. I should be able to slam it back together next week.

Dan could trailer his bus and have JJ tow rope him to the bbb camp spot 🙂
