Herbie rides again! The 1835cc is pretty snappy. Ready to go tomorrow after I fix the passenger door handle and driver’s window regulator.FranzModeratorAugust 23, 2021 at 10:50 amPost count: 4355
Working on some 36 lower cylinder tin for Pete’s ghia. He’s going with a sebring style header or something.
I’m deleting the heater outlets and flaps.PeteParticipantAugust 23, 2021 at 2:26 pmPost count: 1014
Awesome, thanks Franz! I’ve reached out to A-1 for their version of the Sebring…they’re slammed, so it’ll be October at the earliest. I’m in no rush at all.FranzModeratorAugust 23, 2021 at 2:34 pmPost count: 4355

Crandon?!?! Shit! How about 2022?
I need to work on Chad’s 67 dormoblie, Kelly’s 55 vert, and Dan’d 65 Tesla swap.
This year has been crazy with drive-in VW repairs.FranzModeratorAugust 30, 2021 at 12:41 pmPost count: 4355
Chip’s refresh is getting refreshed. Engine is running good, but getting on the low side of compression as measured on a leak-down test. Plus, chip has put a ton miles on it. We’re going to send the log block 1776cc to painters in Denver for a rebuild.FranzModeratorAugust 30, 2021 at 2:26 pmPost count: 4355
Definitely ready for a cleaning. That’s a battery plastic cap off of a side terminalFranzModeratorAugust 30, 2021 at 6:02 pmPost count: 4355
Power washed, oil drained, and pallet-ized for Painter’s Grinding to do their thing – rebuild/machine.
*Mechanics always like clean parts…and the boys at Painter’s like notes.😊65DlxParticipantAugust 30, 2021 at 6:16 pmPost count: 27
Glad the refresh is getting a refresh. Hopefully this bus will be able to chase the KCW crew, and the Ottingers, around for another ten years.ShortbusParticipantAugust 31, 2021 at 8:44 amPost count: 2
Hey Franz… tell John that with all the greasy pressure washing you guys are doing lately, you need a hot water pressure washer. I know a guy. 😉FranzModeratorAugust 31, 2021 at 7:09 pmPost count: 4355
We decided to tear into the reduction boxes. It needs new bearing for sure. I also wanted to take the axles out to inspect the spade ends for wear at the fulcrum/side gear. ….remember this bus has done multiple Moab trips. The axles looked good, but the side gear on the passenger side is cracked. The fulcrum plates have some wear too. So we will want to replace the side gear and all four fulcrum plates.
Can you see the roller retainer is touching the inner race? Has not failed yet. Probably not good to reuse.
Also notice a leak on the backside of the box at the plug.
and yeah Chad I have some more cleaning to do.🤦♂️
