So stoked to see the rig back in the updates! I think split side window assembly is universally loathed. Wing vent assembly, is worse than being the loser in a nut kickin’ contest. Those black latches look tight.
The paint looks so good in the pictures as is, but I think I’m gonna opt for the shine.
Window assembly…
I love going on adventures in our bus!!!
Got the pop outs done and ready for install.
Rubbers, felts, latches, and sliders all installed on front door window frames. No vent wing yet, we’re missing the glass to frame seals so vent wings are on hold.
We’re also changing safari latches to black commercial style. They will keep their stainless bases and buttons. Three down one to go.
We will build it if it comes.
Looks so good! Get those pop-outs away from the edge of the table, you’re making me nervous 😉
I just realized, I didn’t have vent wing gutters (the swoosh) on the bus previously. Were you able to order those?
Did you guys get the NOS glass rear turn signals I sent? They should’ve come from West Coast Metric.
Also, were you able to order the brake backing plates from WW?
swoosh’s are for Nike’s.. I am a swoosh hater!!! I haven’t put a set of swoosh’s in a bus in around 10 years.. I see no function, and a total pain in the ass to put in and finish the rubber behind it… I’m not saying it’s impossible… but if you see a pot hole, you avoid it right? Thats all they are.. useless… Barn doors didn’t come with them!! Thats what got me going on getting rid of them… anyway… sorry… I do not do swoosh’s.. and I can say with experience, it has no effect on anything…
I haven’t seen any packages lately… we haven’t ordered WW yet for your mechanicals.
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
I noticed walking in the house last night there isn’t a single swoosh in a single bus in the parking lot.. why?? Cause I probably built em… 😎

The glass lenses arrive a couple weeks ago, I put them in the back of the bus.
safari’s going together. Pat added the extra stuff in the corners to make the glass tight. Windows are not a slap together ordeal… You gotta pay attention to lots of details… I want them to look and function correctly!!!!!! Those popouts are baller Mike!! and you have original latches!!! I guess well end up making something for the missing knob… grind down a later one..?????

Oh shit, I hit the swoosh nerve 😉 I trust y’all considering the driving and weather you’ve taken your buses thru. Come to think of it, on my previous DC from high school, that thing made my wind wings a pain in the ass to clean.
The pop outs look perfect. I don’t think I have that knob, but I’ll double check some of the “discard” stuff I have here.
For the backing plates, I guess my question was…Do you want me to order ’em or will you guys? I’m good either way.
@Franz – Thanks for the confirm on the glass rear signals lenses.I believe Franz ordered backing plates. If not we will.
Installed pop outs yesterday.
JJ and I ended up on the same page yesterday, frustrated with Safari window assembly. I had my first one apart four five times before I got the seal just right.
Only one in because I had a glass “failure” yesterday while assembling the second one. Glass shop is currently working on a new one.
Fresh air vent flap rebuilt and installed.
JJ had a black lever in his parts stash.
Thought I was done with door windows on Monday but I forgot the outer seal. Slipped them in. Now just waiting on vent seals.
We lost another pop out knob. Started to turn it a little and it fell apart. Ahhh…😢
We will build it if it comes.
Ah yeah, it’s starting to look like an actual vehicle!
I hope there were no injuries on the Safari incident. That was “newer” glass from Wolfgang, when ever the PO installed the leakers. I’m glad the 60 year old glass (on the side windows) made it thru 🤞.
Bummer on the knob, but kinda expected on 60 year old Bakelite.
Thanks for the confirmation on the backing plates.
I have a few more items to get done on the BD… then…. It’s Pat and JJ time on your rig… 😎 More assy, and sounds like a sand a buff session!!! 😎 The cali shine!!! The cali shine certification!!!!! 1000 grit about 85%, 1500 about 95% it….. Buff.. Buff again, and then some more… 😎 Wipe….. Admire. 😎
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
Looks great now. Gonna be even better when it’s shining. Great job this week!

I am starting the polishing process today!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’t the next logical step…. Get it shiney and put it together more… I painted like 4 weeks ago… 😎 it should be all good and hard and ready now… 😎 gonna be like a pearl grey mirror… 😎 I’m gonna put some pearl grey on my dually when I redo it.. 😎
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
