Lots of baggies and tape and labels. I tried to be as thorough as possible. That said, I know there are some things that might be missing or need to be replaced. I’m fully expecting a significant WW order.
I have the wiper arms here. They aren’t terrible, but I thought new ones are probably easiest. I’ll send them your direction, but if you think it’s just better to order new ones, go for it.
I’ve always liked black safari and wind wing latches, if they have those…awesome!
I decided to order some NOS glass Hella rear turn signal lenses from WCM. Those plastic deals always irritated me. They should be heading your way this week.John JonesKeymasterApril 15, 2019 at 8:46 amPost count: 4753
I kept on keeping on yesterday… I put some stripper on your steering wheel and got that Ivory paint off… I’m gonna paint it shiney black! and make it commercial like it should be.. I haven’t seen any black knobs either so repop’s…?? Your wiper motor is the 64-65 with the parking brake, and your switch is the screw terminal style single speed no brake style… the rest of your switches are spade…. so… I bet they re pop that switch also. spade, and make it all match… Your truck is right at the screw terminal spade terminal switch over, and I think the harness comes with spades.. so win win.
Painted them little stops for the rear latches and finally got that gas door painted!!!!! 😎 I’m gonna sand and prep your steering wheel for some paint, and get that cheap paint off your steering box and put some nice shiny black on it… and the turn signal switch…. black….. I started the fresh air box flapper rebuild… I’ll finish that today also.. I think I am gonna have it to a really really good stopping point before it’s time for coming off the dolly..8-) 😎 Franz orders our Parts today.. and it’s ready to assemble! 😎
Floor mats??? New one’s?? You have the seats.. what about panels? Insulate like usual? lots more quite!!!
Your rear brakes are super crappy, hacked up backing plates being the biggest problem… I doubt I have any big nut stuff left…maybe… I guess we will look…. Maybe you could look through samba for a nice pair and send em… Mechanicals will be the next big push.. so we have a moment or two… 😎mdubgParticipantApril 15, 2019 at 11:30 amPost count: 248
I tried responding to the above, but it didn’t go through. I’ll try again, just hope it doesn’t show up 3 or 4 times.mdubgParticipantApril 15, 2019 at 11:38 amPost count: 248
I’m having trouble posting my response, so I removed the pictures…
Progress, progress. Sounds good on the steering wheel, knobs, switches, etc. Black commercial all around.
I just checked my garage, floor mats are here, but they are pretty worn out in the front and a bit of a hack in the back (cut from a bus one). So, new mats are probably a good call.
I have the seats, they are currently black and in pretty good shape. I also have the interior panels here. They are the original grey and pretty beat. I’m not sure how grey panels will look on the grey truck, I don’t think there will be enough contrast and the greys are likely just “off color” from each other. I’m pondering the idea of doing the baseball mitt brown/tan, similar to what was on mango buses.mdubgParticipantApril 15, 2019 at 11:41 amPost count: 248
Think this, but in bench seats with matching panels:
I’m still up in the air on it. It seems fancy, but seems like the only combo that works without going all black which I don’t think will look good. Regardless, insulate as usual.
Here’s another old school picture with a Perl Grau bus with tan interior. Hard to tell with the color age on the pic and the school kids in the way.
Finally for the backing plates, I’ll look around the interwebs and see what I can find. Do you know the years for those backing plates for reference?Baja MarkParticipantApril 16, 2019 at 4:25 amPost count: 332
I like the contrast between the Perlgrau and caramel. Backing plates for big nut are 64-67.FranzKeymasterApril 16, 2019 at 6:57 amPost count: 2396
fancy interior panels and bulkhead panel/drink tray too?
like a deluxe double cab?mdubgParticipantApril 16, 2019 at 7:38 amPost count: 248
No bulkhead panel, that’s too much 😉 …and there’s not a ton of legroom in the back so I don’t want to take away from that.WillyModeratorApril 16, 2019 at 1:01 pmPost count: 703
I think this orange-y color material in this FJ would look good with your shade of grey…mdubgParticipantApril 16, 2019 at 4:20 pmPost count: 248
You’re the second person that said an orange-ish interior.John JonesKeymasterApril 16, 2019 at 5:20 pmPost count: 4753
I’d be all over some tweed… 😎 two toned, charcoal and grey, with grey piping… 😎 all around up and down like a mini truck! 😎
cleaning up shit, painting shit, getting shit ready for the final assy phase!!!! except that heavy mechanical stuff. 😎
That steering wheel kicked my ass yesterday!!!! but it looks pretty bitchen now… 😎 OG stiffy!!!!! 😎 😎
You’ve got nice complete headlight buckets.. easy clean up, repaint, polish etc… even OG rings I think… they are not perfect… not at all.. but I would run em…. easy to change thing later too… I am more into function over show… 😎
Pushed it out for a few pics for ya…. Looks awesome!
Looking great Mike.. Hope your equally happy!!!! 😎RustabusParticipantApril 16, 2019 at 8:55 pmPost count: 1340
John did Oxblood on his grey Vert, I copied it on my bare metal 356!! Silvers and Oxblood look great together!!! Timeless!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂mdubgParticipantApril 16, 2019 at 9:31 pmPost count: 248
Very happy! The DC looks great!
It looks like WW has 64-67 backing plates both driver and passenger sides. Do you want to just add those to the parts order you’re already making?
Finally do you have any recommendations for interior panel suppliers? Have you used Sewfine outta Denver in the past? I have a catalog for them and they look good from the marketing materials. I’m thinking I’ll have panels shipped to you. I’ll have seat covers sent to me and I’ll do the seats here and bring them when I pick up the truck.
