Hey pat, Once I get the vanagon fixed up and proven again.. I might have some extra time.. maybe a day or 2.. would you hire me for a day or 2??

No can do…Wouldn’t want you to get your water cooled clean hands dirty on an old air cooled..😘

We will build it if it comes.

Cool. Thanks Cole. The BFG all terrains do have aggressive side wall…but the tread pattern is mild, no road noise. We can do regular street radial tires too if you’re worried about the look. The vintage speed exhausts are nice and quiet. I can install one no problem. You should order one and have it shipped here. We don’t have anything set-up with those guys. On the transaxle, I think we should go with the 3.44 ring and pinion with .89 4th. That should get you up to 65-70mph cruising speed.

Franz – I don’t want to order the wrong exhaust from Vintage Speed. Can you take a couple minutes and take a look at their stuff? http://shop.vintagespeed.com.tw/s.nl/sc.12/category.3700/.f I think it’s the “Classic Super Flow VW Split Window Bus Exhaust System” (Part#155-706-052SF) without heat risers. It’s the one that looks like an updated version of the stock exhaust. If you can confirm that is what will work with the “baby tractor”, that would be great! I do love the BFG, but I think the look is going to be more offroad than I want. What tire would you reco for a more stock look? I’ll go with your reco on the gearing that works with the “baby tractor”. 70mph sounds good for an old DC.

Hey, sorry Mike I meant to respond to this the other day

I like the lowered super-flow exhaust better. The exhaust tip is more compact and points the other way. 155-707-052SF -no heat risers. The noise won’t be bouncing of the barrier and right into your ear….and less chance of catching the tail pipe and ripping it off.

For tires we can find some load rated 215/75 street tires. Do you have a brand preference? I bet there are several available.

Thanks for taking a look at the exhausts.  I’ll order one up and get it sent to KCW.

I’ll take a look at tires online in that size (215/75).

I’ve been looking at pictures of VW trucks with the BFG’s like Cole posted and I’m still pondering those.  I haven’t made a decision.

I saw pictures of that DC in pictures from the weekend (I wasn’t there, just living it through the interwebs).  I also have seen it first hand at OCTO, when I use to live a mile away. (pictures below).  That bus is beautiful!

It’s hard to tell from pictures if it’s the same.  It’s definitely close.

Almost like mouse Grey…maybe a shade or two darker. We’ll have to do a few spray-outs to send to you.

Yeah, not much giant boulder hauling on that rig.  Probably gonna be the same for me once KCW resets the clock on my DC.

Franz, I agree, I think it’s closer to a mouse gray (a little more brown in it).  The Pearl Grey is more of a cement color.

Sweet!  What’s up with the old spoked wheel in the blast booth?  Are you mocking up wheel/tire options for the Double Cab? 😎

    I collect spoke wheels.

That is some dodge or chevy  junk that got demoted to a door/rotisserie stop.
