Exhaust is ordered and will be shipped to KCW.volksaddictParticipantJanuary 21, 2019 at 6:25 amPost count: 627
Stole this off Samba, think it was at bbb. Same color?mdubgParticipantJanuary 21, 2019 at 6:57 amPost count: 294
I saw pictures of that DC in pictures from the weekend (I wasn’t there, just living it through the interwebs). I also have seen it first hand at OCTO, when I use to live a mile away. (pictures below). That bus is beautiful!
It’s hard to tell from pictures if it’s the same. It’s definitely close.FranzKeymasterJanuary 21, 2019 at 7:31 amPost count: 3639
Almost like mouse Grey…maybe a shade or two darker. We’ll have to do a few spray-outs to send to you.volksaddictParticipantJanuary 21, 2019 at 8:03 amPost count: 627
That thing is clean! Not hauling anything in that bed 🙂mdubgParticipantJanuary 21, 2019 at 8:39 amPost count: 294
Yeah, not much giant boulder hauling on that rig. Probably gonna be the same for me once KCW resets the clock on my DC.
Franz, I agree, I think it’s closer to a mouse gray (a little more brown in it). The Pearl Grey is more of a cement color.Pat KKeymasterJanuary 22, 2019 at 8:50 pmPost count: 1427
Chris finished up blasting today! Wooo!
We will build it if it comes.mdubgParticipantJanuary 22, 2019 at 9:45 pmPost count: 294
Sweet! What’s up with the old spoked wheel in the blast booth? Are you mocking up wheel/tire options for the Double Cab? 😎FranzKeymasterJanuary 23, 2019 at 8:40 amPost count: 3639
I collect spoke wheels.
That is some dodge or chevy junk that got demoted to a door/rotisserie stop.FranzKeymasterJanuary 24, 2019 at 11:06 amPost count: 3639
Hey Mike, I got a call from Painter’s about the engine.
They took it all apart, and said the case needs line bored, and will only bore to a 1776cc.
Painter’s has brand new OEM mag cases. They are about $800 Kind of expensive, but worth it. Nice to have tight lifter bores and standard bearings. I suggest we go with the new case, but its your call.mdubgParticipantJanuary 24, 2019 at 3:59 pmPost count: 294
I want to make sure that I have the most reliable motor possible. Tell Painter’s to go ahead with the new case.BBWBParticipantJanuary 24, 2019 at 5:37 pmPost count: 839

I bought one of those cases. Still going strong in Dan’s bus.

Nice to start with something that is for sure not warpedRustabusParticipantJanuary 27, 2019 at 8:46 amPost count: 1969
How much does it usually run to have Painters rebuild a tranny center section?????John JonesKeymasterJanuary 28, 2019 at 8:48 amPost count: 6731
A new case is penny’s in the big picture, and the reliability and longer future and peace of mind is priceless… 😎

I talked to the folks that I ordered the exhaust from. Unfortunately, they shipped the set-up with heat risers, so you should see the system with the wrong part first. They are sending the hook-ups without heat risers separately, so they should show up a little later.FranzKeymasterJanuary 30, 2019 at 9:08 amPost count: 3639
We’ve been doing more boring work on your truck. Chris stripped and blasted some stuff, currently getting the transaxle and beam parts ready to blast.
It sounds like Painter’s is getting started on the mechanicals build. They called with a couple questions yesterday.FranzKeymasterJanuary 31, 2019 at 11:10 amPost count: 3639
Chris still working on tear-down and clean-up.
Looks like we need to repair that spring plate.
The link pins and needle bearing were in rough shape. We’ll have to get new ones.mdubgParticipantJanuary 31, 2019 at 1:30 pmPost count: 294
Awesome to see the progress!
I’m excited to see you going through the front-end. Previously, driving down the highway was a series of suggestions made to the steering wheel. Sometimes the bus would comply with the suggestions, sometimes not. When the brakes were touched, it was a wild ride. It was sketchy to say the least. It will be nice to be able to track down the road without a bunch of exaggerated wandering and with those front discs I sent.
Speaking of the front-end, what’s the verdict on the steering box? During teardown I think John mentioned that we may need to source one.
