Hopefully there’s lots of good parts to use….. 😎
Pats been finishing up the drivers front wheel well and bulkhead stuff… 😎mdubgParticipantDecember 27, 2018 at 6:54 amPost count: 298Pat KKeymasterDecember 27, 2018 at 7:45 amPost count: 1517
^^ Chris will get it torn down and ready for shipping to Painters as soon as it arrives.
I pulled a halfdaybob on Mon. Got the front floor fit and half way burned in.
Finished it up yesterday, along with the driver fender well/bulk head patches.
Grabbed the corner and pieces to start on this morning.
Anybody see something wrong with this picture?
We will build it if it comes.mdubgParticipantDecember 27, 2018 at 12:07 pmPost count: 298
Those vents are gonna get in the way of the taillights in that setup.FranzKeymasterDecember 27, 2018 at 12:30 pmPost count: 3807
That could be cool. Tuck corners with the vents in the back.Pat KKeymasterDecember 27, 2018 at 4:02 pmPost count: 1517
JJ sent an email off the Gerson, hopefully we’ll see the correct one soon.
Knocked out a couple of small patches this morning. Dash.
Old seat belt mount hole.
So I started looking at the driver side d-pillar area . Apron mount looked a little twisted.
That’s because it was bolted together.
All of the spot welds must have popped loose in the same accident that smashed the pass side d-pillar. You can see the gap between the d-pillar support triangle and the frame once I removed the bolt.
Driver side tray is is nice shape.
This corner has seen much better days though. The tail light patch is junk, has to be redone. That’s about 2ft of welding!! Going to be faster, better, smarter to just replace the whole thing.
What do you think Mike? We already have the correct corner.
We will build it if it comes.mdubgParticipantDecember 27, 2018 at 7:34 pmPost count: 298
I’ve been wondering from the start if y’all were going to recommend replacing that corner. I’m cool with replacing it if you guys think that’s the better route.
What was the hole in the dash? I thought the dash was intact, especially because there wasn’t even a radio in the truck. As long as you are in the cab, look up. Did you notice, someone punched a hole in the fresh air box to screw in a non-VW mirror. Can you patch that as well?Pat KKeymasterDecember 27, 2018 at 8:35 pmPost count: 1517
Cool. Well get the fresh one on there. I did not see that hole but I will get it patched up.
Drivers side frame/apron mount/ bat tray are all back together.
No more gap.
Also got the pass d-pillar fit and burned in.
We will build it if it comes.mdubgParticipantDecember 27, 2018 at 8:55 pmPost count: 298
Looks good. It’s gonna be nice to have a deck lid that fits well and a stay that will hold it open and not let it crack me in the back of the head.Pat KKeymasterDecember 28, 2018 at 12:23 pmPost count: 1517
Started on the left rear this morning. Got everything dissected. Had to make up one small path for the inner structure.
Mud flap was also broken loose.
First fit is looking good.
We will build it if it comes.mdubgParticipantDecember 28, 2018 at 12:57 pmPost count: 298
That looks way better, and easier, than jackin’ around with the other corner with the messy patch and dings and dents.mdubgParticipantDecember 28, 2018 at 4:41 pmPost count: 298
I loaded the rest of the tins up in box and sent’em via USPS. I don’t know if they are worth the cost of sending, but you can let me know.John JonesKeymasterDecember 29, 2018 at 2:12 pmPost count: 7121
Great!!! I love OG tin… It’s the best hands down!!!!! Pat got that left corner on… and I have the right corner on order…. They are closed next week though… 8-(mdubgParticipantDecember 29, 2018 at 2:22 pmPost count: 298
I don’t know how OG the tins are. The shroud looks like a puma (the short square kind). Here’s the motor when I removed it, right before trailering the truck your direction.mdubgParticipantDecember 31, 2018 at 10:49 amPost count: 298
Hope you all have a happy New Year celebration! Sounds like 2019 is going to be off to a fun start with BBB, Scottsdale Auction, and Shasta (jealous of all the trips).John JonesKeymasterDecember 31, 2018 at 11:22 amPost count: 7121
Chris is out in the blast booth finishing up the removables, Pat is in the Dirty working on the shell, Getting it ready for it’s “Last Blast” last dusting off of everything before we roll into body work… A good abrasive cleaning to get the green off, and finger prints or spots, and any left over paint…
What Color are we painting this rig again????mdubgParticipantDecember 31, 2018 at 12:47 pmPost count: 298
I’m ready for the slings and arrows to fly on my color choice… 🙂
I do like L31, but want to go with L21 Perl Grau. The truck was originally L345, but I don’t think the light grey has enough pigment to show of the lines of the truck and the expert body work you guys have done. Perl Grau has a commercial look, but also has color to it (like Dove Blue 🙂 ). The bumpers, wheels, emblem will be the stock white (silver white???). Similar to these rides, but with the white bumpers, wheels, and emblem…
Whatcha think???John JonesKeymasterDecember 31, 2018 at 12:52 pmPost count: 7121
I think I love it!!!!!!! Lets do it… How do we get a correct color sample? Never even heard of that color…
