Been slacking on updates…
Polo ended up being a ton of work to get straight and then I kept having moisture problems with the new water based single stage paint. Didn’t help having to daily drive it through the winter while I painted it in sections 🤦🏻♂️ Whatever, it’s done now and up for sale. Just need to sand and buff the new paint on the drivers side.
Decided to let the new owner decide whether to lower or not.Baja MarkParticipantMarch 2, 2019 at 2:26 amPost count: 393
Excited to start properly on the truck this coming week. It has to be ready to be indoors at the Volksworld show on 22nd March! 😃
Got the rims powdercoated and tires mounted last week. Happy with the look.Baja MarkParticipantMarch 2, 2019 at 2:42 amPost count: 393
Decided to let the Yellow bus sit in the main until the truck is on the road. Buffed a couple of small spots for inspiration and worked on the locks some – no door key so decided to rekey all the locks to the same as the ignition (must have been swapped for an OG ignition with 2 original keys at some stage).
Found some cheap Westy Jalousie windows so bought them.
Sliding door was stuck closed. Managed to remove the striker bolts and took the latches to a local shop to be ultrasonic cleaned. I’m doing a locks how to for Volksworld Camper&Bus magazine so I’ll add in a part about latches too.
Paint looks like it will buff out awesome 👏🏼Pat KKeymasterMarch 21, 2019 at 1:33 pmPost count: 1271

Nice. You’re going to have to start a resto shop with all these builds you have.Baja MarkParticipantMarch 26, 2019 at 3:25 amPost count: 393Baja MarkParticipantMarch 26, 2019 at 3:26 amPost count: 393Baja MarkParticipantMay 5, 2019 at 3:32 pmPost count: 393
Finally had time to figure out why the truck wasn’t charging – just the DF wire on the regulator. Daily driver spec until it sells.
Had a friend come to stay this weekend and we pulled the motor out of the yellow Bus to bring it home for some TLC.Baja MarkParticipantMay 6, 2019 at 3:31 pmPost count: 393
For sure – one of the best things about trucks.Baja MarkParticipantSeptember 28, 2019 at 12:53 pmPost count: 393
A whole summer of project progress and didn’t get time to post until now – been working on a Bug for a TV programme, but can’t post pics until it airs.
Managed to take some time out to put the Sierra Yellow Bus on the road and take a Euro road trip in it.
Here’s a few pics of the work…it’s a BAY WINDOW, so not expecting anyone to get enthusiastic about it 😅Baja MarkParticipantSeptember 28, 2019 at 1:03 pmPost count: 393
I fitted the slot mags for a 70s look but instantly didn’t like them. I ended up buying a complete split bus beam, some end plates to narrow it and a pair of brackets from Russ at old speed to run 944 Wilwoods…then I went camping a few times down dirt roads and realised lowered won’t work 😖
Problem is, I don’t like 71’s stock height with late wheels, so I started looking on TS one night and found something more suitable…
Ended up buying this Titian red/Beige grey 66 – the deal includes roller status with a tested big nut trans. I’m stoked, even though it means another big project. Need to finish some body and paint on the Bay and sell it, hopefully before the 66 arrives in a month or two. Pics:RustabusParticipantSeptember 28, 2019 at 8:53 pmPost count: 1847
I’d run stock rims with chrome caps on that Bay!! That red/white Bus looks like an Awesome build!!!!! Yeah!!!! 🙂Baja MarkParticipantSeptember 29, 2019 at 9:11 amPost count: 393
Yeah I’m pretty excited to be back in a split bus – my last one was this Mouse Grey one I posted on the old forum – built in 7 weeks from a junkyard special with loads of frame missing, then sold within 6 months when I got divorced 🤦🏻♂️
