….but we’ve got our hands full with SCORE. Especially if we’re going to do the 1000.
Painter’s should have the busted transaxle today.
I think we should keep the 4.37 ring and pinion. Then get new heavy duty main shaft and hardened 1st gear. Make it bulletproof.
How about the diff? Solid aluminum spool would be the same as the welded. Or we can go with the expensive limited slip type. I think the limited slip would be better for 1st gear and axle/drum spline life.

Team Solorzano posted a video of baja 500 that showed them swapping a transaxle somewhere early in the race. Mile 70 or so. I remember them passing us at mile 165 while we were changing the transaxle.
A few interesting things I noticed. A stock type 12 gallon fuel tank( I assume they are grandfathered in) with a large diameter vent, and what appears to be a 3rd shock reservoir? See it mounted low in the apron. WTF is going on? Do they have some fancy shock valving hidden in those giant reservoirs? Maybe the 3rd unit is a fuel filter or swirl pot for the fuel system? I gather they had a second engine but choose not to use it?Scott SainParticipantJune 20, 2018 at 10:51 amPost count: 265
Franz I have two trannys with these diffs. One is a Quaiffe (swing axle) and one is a Peloquin (IRS). I have not installed them in cars yet. My friends have had great success drag racing with them. I can’t wait to try mine. I say this is the way you should go.RustabusParticipantJune 20, 2018 at 9:05 pmPost count: 1935
Those photos tell a BIG STORY!!!!!!! 🙂PeetParticipantJune 22, 2018 at 6:55 pmPost count: 146
This tracked us on course to r.m.320. We took the out on paved road to Colonet, then north up the 1 to the casa on the point, then north to Ensenada
This is the Esparza’s route. No doubt these guys are BADASS! It took them 29 hours to finish the race. We started with these guys and congratulated them on the finish when they crossed. To me these guys won. They did a trans rebuild the night before, rolled 3 times and hit every vcp
This is Viry Felix route. She was the only car to finish, and winner of the Baja 500. No one else to contest it. Whats really going on?BBWBParticipantJune 23, 2018 at 8:17 amPost count: 824
That looks very fishy indeed!

I was looking at everyone’s race course. Ours look pretty good in comparison. We made mistakes for sure. Its tough to think clearly at 4am..after 3 days of pre-running…after 2 days of travel. Baja was intense and a test in every form. I feel like we failed thinking we could conquer baja as a rookie team on our fist effort. With a little more planning and time I think we can do better. All things considered, I’m proud of our race GPS map.

I want everyone to be clear on these rules. It says stock ratio mainshaft must be used…so that takes care of 1st and 2nd gear ratio because they are part of the main shaft. Then it says gears must be with-in 2% of stock…that means we can slightly lower 3rd an 4th ratio? (Which we hardly ever use). Any ratio/manufacture of ring and pinion is acceptable. We can go lower than 4.37…but the parts become weak.
Then bold letters “DIFFERENTIALS” with nothing under it. Like they forgot to write the rules for that part? I take it as anything is acceptable.
We received our cool differential. ZF type with friction plates set loose. Enough to keep both tires roosting, but allow slip when one tire hooks up.ColeBModeratorAugust 15, 2018 at 5:21 pmPost count: 1553
Yo Franz. Wanna have a call with KB and I tomorrow to talk Baja? KB hired Oliver for the next 14 months to help us get ready for the 1000.
Also, Maybe you guys stay an extra day after the Utah classic and we can go rally the race car out near my parents house and talk about some changes, if any are needed. Then KB was thinking about sending the race car back out to you guys to start prepping it again. give me a time you’d be available to talk tomorrow.FranzKeymasterAugust 16, 2018 at 8:12 amPost count: 3526
Sweet. That sounds like a plan. I’ll be here all day, call anytime.John JonesKeymasterAugust 16, 2018 at 9:22 amPost count: 6534

Sounds like a plan! KB got a new grill for fathers day. would be fun. KB loves his books. Maybe there will be some other Bajas coming from junction? Would be fun to have a group to rally around withColeBModeratorSeptember 13, 2018 at 2:43 pmPost count: 1553
Getting ready for the show! This thing leaked a quart probably of gear oil since it was parked. What should I do about that? Just fill it up? We’re going to get a new tranny anyway huh?Pat KKeymasterSeptember 13, 2018 at 3:44 pmPost count: 1352
