I’ve been “ok” I guess.. Massive right leg pain in the morning… and at night if I happen to kick or move my leg around in my sleep or rolling over or something… If I get up to pee… oh man… pain pain pain… I usually feel better after noon.. and untill I go to bed.. But I try not to walk around much..
Today I see the surgeon again.. finally.. Last we spoke, he said we have A LOT to talk about today… That was after he looked at my mri and did 2 steroid injections in my back.. I think maybe all the hot spring relaxing helped some….. 😎 😎 😎
I don’t think the injections did much… 8-( 8-(DozerParticipantFebruary 26, 2020 at 12:20 pmPost count: 37
Hope everything goes well John! So sorry to hear about the issues! Anything surgical relating to spine/neck is nothing to take lightly. My wife went through something similar with her neck after being rear-ended while turning her head and looking over her shoulder. She spent 14 months in agonizing pain trying everything they could come up with. Finally a surgeon stepped up and decided to do something about it. She decided to move forward and had 3 vertebrae fused together with a plate.
That was 15 years ago roughly and looking back, she will tell anyone that having the surgery was the best decision she ever made. After recovery she has been pain free since.

Thanks for the kind and positive words… The last few months have sucked.. So much intense pain.. at the worst times too… My mind has been all over the map.. I watched a surgery on you tube the other day… Holy shit.. I almost passed out!!!!!! That kinda freaked me out… but after talking to doc’s and others… it sounds like fusion is no big deal, they do it all the time and have a very high likely hood of a very full recovery… No pain, and back to waking!!!!! No more heavy duty use anymore… of course.. But I am ok with that!!! 😎 😎 Now that I have my freedom… I want to enjoy it.. 😎
SO….. April 13th, thats a Monday not a Friday luckily! 6:30am… I go in for a 8 hour surgery… Fusion from L3 to L4 and L4 to L5 and L5 to S1… and some rooto rooter work also… Going in the front, then the back, and 2 rods and 8 screws I think…. My neck is already fused… Thats gonna be a whole lotta fusion in my spine….. 😎 😎 But I think it is the only option with my messed up back….
I am betting my summer will be filled up with tons of rehab appointments…. bummer…WillyModeratorMarch 8, 2020 at 2:22 pmPost count: 1108
Bummer about that big surgery… but I bet giving having the ability to walk around some more is a good trade off.RobKParticipantMarch 8, 2020 at 3:04 pmPost count: 2
hey John – my 55 YO wife had exactly the same on L3-L4-L5. The decision to go with the op happened after 5 years of sciatic pain and was triggered by not being able to work in the garden any more…
Absolutely the *best* thing ever! 👍👍👍CorporateModeratorMarch 8, 2020 at 8:55 pmPost count: 850

I have a friend named Kyra Condie. We grew up competing in climbing together. She is from the mid west. Look her up. She is now one of two females that will be climbing for the US in the olympics this year. She had her back fused when she was young. Now she is one of the best climbers in the world! Maybe a new career path for you after surgery? 😉View this post on Instagram
Today marks 10 years post spinal fusion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On March 12th 2010, due to severe idiopathic scoliosis, I had vertebrae T2-T12 fused. That entire section of my back healed as one bone and can’t bend or twist at all. I knew back in 2010 when I got the surgery that I wasn’t going to let it impact my ability to be an athlete, but I never imagined I’d make it this far. I was lucky enough to find a surgeon at Gillette Children’s Hospital who believed in me and told me to send him a photo when I was standing on top of the podium. A few weeks ago, I got to one-up that—I emailed him that I qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. There are definitely times when I feel like my lack of mobility holds me back (a great example was boulder 2 in Finals in Toulouse), which can be super discouraging. I’ve learned to not let that frustrate me in the moment, but instead try to find a way that works for me. It definitely keeps things interesting to say the least. I love hearing stories from other people with scoliosis so if you ever have questions about the surgery feel free to message me! @mountainhardwear @ocun.climbing @penguinfingers

Thanks for all the kind words guys…. I sure appreciate it!!!!!!!!! I feel good and positive about surgery now…. Although, My currently scheduled surgery was cancelled… so… who knows now… I’m going to try and not work it too much or at all… 😎 😎
Looks like it was my sump… cracked right through the weld… there are only a couple of spots on the bottom that show evidence of a rock hit.. and not enough to cause a problem I would think… weird… Not shasta or JJ approved I guess… It’s coming off, and regular CB sump is going on and I am going to put a oil cooler back on it… I give up…. I tried and tried, even made custom super expensive parts to try and fight it… I loose… a 2 liter motor needs a cooler on it if you want any kind of longevity out it….. eating crow here… 😎 😎 😎 😎
I Love my bus… and can’t fucking wait to go back to lone rock beach with a sand toy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
