I wondered the same thing Andy…. I feel like my oil is staying within limit’s… But maybe I need more air?  I dunno how to get more!!!  I am surprised it was the intake!!!  I would think that would be the cooler of the two…….   I think I will lower the compression some more… I am at 7.9 now… Maybe 7.5 with some hemi cut heads???

I’ll have her fixed up next week or so.   No worries… 😎

I’ll drive my new 57 to Rusty’s this weekend… 😎  and if we do some camping.. it has a Z bed  😎

Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎

Maybe try tuning your carbs by wideband?  You might find that your jetting mix is such that your engine is at highway cruise it spends too much time in that stoic range of 14-15 air/fuel ratio where it runs hottest.  Should be 12.75 wide open throttle, 16.1 or higher at cruise.  I feel like I got pretty good results tuning mine that way.

Not sure I can tell what that is floating in your intake, but Agree with Pete on the wideband tuning. Getting the jetting jetting right can help run cooler and also help the mpg. If I keep my foot out of it I can get 20-21 which I think is pretty good considering what it is.  Also,  FWIW I set my compression 9:1 static, dynamic came out to around 8.25-8.5. I also am not running the front tin (around doghouse chute) to allow more air into engine bay.

….also when I first got my bigger engine in it ran hot regardless of what I did, until I added the external oil cooler and thermostatic bypass. Then everything fell back into line. And the motor runs cool now.

…..also…. If you don’t have, or access to, I can send you my LM2 wideband via usps or cole, or whomever is headed your way so you can check/adjust your jetting if needed. If you have an O2 bung on your exhaust that’s awesome, or I have the adapter to clamp the O2 onto your tailpipe.

I feel ok about my oil…. I haven’t had any bottom end issue’s at all..  (I’ll probably wish I hadn’t said that…)  I know an oil cooler would make a difference… I just don’t like all the plumbing extra shit to go wrong and worry about.. and wire a fan and relays and all that shit..  I also am weary of the time it takes to get oil pressure up in a long legged system..  I have also gotten caught on shasta on a hill, stopped for a bit of time..  idling.. and cold and lost oil pressure for some reason… scared the beggegies out of me..  My cooler was about md way…. I have a friend who sipped some koolaid from the porsche racers and put a cooler up front under the front bumper… I think he went through atleast two engines… There’s also that ghia we built for the eye surgeon… dual coolers way up front.. it went through a few engines also…   sooooooo.. I dunno… I have had about every configuration you can come up with…   I know for damn sure my old BD engine’s were hot as hell and never dropped a guide or head….

I ordered some shit this morning.  Heads, p/c’s, shit.. hemi cut heads… going for a little lower compression..

I drive the PISS outta my shit.. I carry two people dogs and shit.. and TOW my baja also… and did you see my roof rack???  😎  😎

If only there was some easy bolt on solution….🤔

oh wait. There is. Haha Add 6.5 quarts to your engine. Easy cooling. Been super happy with my setup so far.

im still taking temps. But after this weekend of cruising I’ll have a good base of numbers to share with everyone. So far it’s looking good

Weather has been messing me up and haven’t been able to get my trailer out of the 12″ deep mud in the field. Trying a different approach today and if it works I’ll load the car Wed or Thursday and am thinking a trip down to KCW on Friday. Anyone going to be around?

Got the trailer out and hosed of. Probably load the car this afternoon and head for KCW Friday morning.

Personally, What I have found is Most people that  claim to know what they preach, don’t even own a vw,  let alone drive a vw on 1200+ mile trips in a bus, or have multiple issues with their own shit. My advise is find what works for you and go with it. Trial and error is key. If it don’t work change it, if it works, leave it. I know you know your shit JJ and will get it sorted out. I was just sharing what has personally worked for me. I love you guys  and hanging out, really wanna get back out exploring with you soon. 🥳

AMEN!!!!   I listen to everyone’s advice… and I hope everyone considers mine too…. 😎   We all gotta find what wirks for us, our bus, our driving, our suspension, tires, habits etc…. 😎

I think I have head temp problems..  so I will put this all back together and the dyno the bitch around the corner at Al’s place and well see exactly what it does….. 😎  Thanks for the input guys!!!!!!  😎
