So I took some torque readings…   1/2 side, upper studs all around 30… Lower studs below 20… 3/4 side… upper studs were around 30, lowers, 15ish some lower, some slightly higher..    That was my valve lash…   I have steel push rods.. so zero is the setting.. I am going to order smith bros HD aluminum’s next week…  Monday I reckon.. Hope they are open…. 😎

I took out all the center dual springs on both sides… and am going to fit up the solid shaft stock rockers now… and figure out push rod length.

I also noticed a exhaust stud missing… gotta fix that.  see that upper.. no nut no stud!!!  but it wasn’t leaking!!!  but I am sure it would have soon..

So I got my heads torqued down… installed the stock solid shaft rockers with swivel ends..     The steel push rods I have are the right length, so I am just gonna use em…   Oh….  So…  I was talking about how much valve spring pressure I had and how much extra hard it makes it to turn over the engine.. I measured it with my torque wrench..  all this done without plugs or intakes, so no compression, just ring resistance.

With dual springs and ratio’s.. it took around 20ft lb’s to turn over past the valve springs…

With no valve train.. it took around 9-10ft lb’s

With single springs and stock rockers, negligibly more than stock…  10-11ft lb’s…

I think there will be several positives from this…  Less cam and valve train wear for one thing… 😎

    Very interesting JJ…

do you think the single valve springs will get too hot on long trips and not close enough?? Is that the idea behind dual springs?

Dual valve spring are for slapping    them closed at high rpm to make sore u get full burn on the power stroke. High rpm and turbo shit.

We will build it if it comes.

    I imagine if I keep it under 6K rpms.. I should be ok… 😎

Is that a new find Jesse??   Something we could actually go buy??  Or is it for sale somewhere??

Got my engine all done and put back together and back in the bus…   I think I just need to change the oil before BBB and I am good to go.. 😎   I should probably buy some new rear tires…   I love the look of the mud terrains… But they wear quick, and are loud when they do wear… I put all terrains on the front a few months back… I’m gonna do the same in the back…  Maybe… if I am feeling it.. I will dismount them all and blast and paint em… 😎

I have no projects…. which is boring!!!!!!!!! On my 22 day journey I have coming up, I should think about it….   I do feel like I can really “think’ about things out on the road…  I also think I really like road trips… I love to drive…. I love watching the miles go by me… I love seeing nature… trees, rocks…  the dotted lines going by….      I want to do a big ol trip up to the North East!!!

Sounds like you need to be a “long haul” trucker for your next career.

I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
