Got the Baja all back together yesterday evening. Drove great, all nice and tight up front again.
Going to order up a set of these to help the front end survive a little longer this time.
We will build it if it comes.alykatParticipantMay 7, 2018 at 12:54 pmPost count: 367
Hey Pat it is just possible that I have a new set of those stashed in one of my boxes. I’ll try to check today or tomorrow.alykatParticipantMay 8, 2018 at 7:41 amPost count: 367
So Pat, this is what I have. Looks kind of like the pictures in your post ? Got these a couple of years ago when I was thinking about making a mount to bolt a VW beam on the Tri Vator, then decided I didn’t have time to work on it.Pat KKeymasterMay 17, 2018 at 12:43 pmPost count: 1126
I’ll take them Alykat. Bring them by next time your down this way.

beam broke… this is a problem… Beam stiffeners are a must!!!!!RustabusParticipantJune 25, 2018 at 6:47 amPost count: 1698
What’s up with you guys breaking beams??!!??!?!?? Is there some huge ass boulder on the trail that you all keep taking turns trying to crawl over or push off the trail?????!!????? 🙂Pat KKeymasterJune 25, 2018 at 7:45 amPost count: 1126
Happens because we HALL ASS!!!!!
Hauling ass and lock up the breaks for a wash you don’t see coming. Compress the front suspension, u slide into it and which ever L/R hits first takes most of the abuse. Do that a few times things start to bend then one more bad hit finishes it off.
This beam was bent back on both sides. Then broke from a hard hit on the right side.
Picked up a set of beam stiffners from Alykat, thank you Sr., that will be going on this week.

Started rubbing on the front end last night. Looks like it took a digger up front at some point. Pushed and welded up cracks on the pass side last night.

To be determined. It will get front discs and a 2” narrowed beam.
Looks like a good start. Is that the worst damage ?
Yeah. That’s the worst damage. Will require some rust repair as well.

Was able to get the pass side front body mount/ nut plate & cage/ heater channel/ front bulk head area taken care of this weekend.
Had some help also. Riley, my son, says he wants to learn to work on cars. Got him all geared up and set him to grinding on the driver front wheel well area.
He kicked but Saturday and wanted to come back on Sunday for more. So I had him dissect a section of the pass side rocker then we bent up a patch panel.
Had to pull the dolly out from under it to access rear heater channel sections next. It’s just a lump in the way in the dirty shop now. Gotta get these knocked out so it’s back on wheels again.

Kick’in ass Kendall. Hope that boy of yours keeps it up. We need a new generation of blue collar workers.
I hope to give him the skills so he can have a good job before and during collage. After that hopefully he still wants to stick with it. He thinks a career in the NHRA would be the best, but says he would settle for a NACAR job.
Just noticed that the NHRA Las Vegas 4 wide nationals falls the same weekend as the San Felipe 250 for Baja. Decisions, decisions..
Pat, you coming to BBB?
No Sr. No bus, no BBB for me. I know its ok to bring a beetle and you can can with your group, but thats not for me. BBB 2020 ill see ya there.
Awesome progress and great your boy wants to get involved..I wish my dad was a car guy..
My dad Hates! working on cars. He taught me a whole lot about everything else, hunting, fishing, woking your ass off.
Got my love of mechanical things from my Grandpa Dean. He built me my first go cart, all electric, when I was 3 or so. By the time I was 5 we had put together a tube frame cart with a 5hp Briggs and Stratton. He poured the aluminum hubs and made the leather break shoes. Also showed me how to remove the throttle stop for full power that he did not inform my parents about.
We will build it if it comes.
