Whats the deal with the 4.37 R and P? Does that mean fast when I take off but tops out fast?  Guessing it will climb hills better but sucks on the highway? What do you guys put in with the GRB, 3.88? Got to love the craigslist lottery! I’m just glad it works.

It’ll be awesome for creeping on trails and accelerating through the gears…but top speed sucks.

Yeah, a 3.88 ring & pinion will make the top speed better… JJ likes a 3.44 with a beetle .89 4th gear. vs. the overdrive .82 bus 4th.

Did Wren drive his bus home today?

Change the oil again after running a tank of gas or two through it. Drop the drain plug, don’t mess with the sump plate and pick-up filter. Valvoline racing oil with zinc, or some sort of zinc additive… The new engine has fancy dual valve spring heads and needs the good oil.

Yeah Bus Kicks ASS! Everything works great! That new engine is AWESOME. Has great power! Thanks KCW you guys keep making this bus better and better! Not sure yet how I feel about the craigslist gear box. The gears are sooooo low. From GJ to Montrose  4th gear felt like a 3rd gear. Only had it up to about 50 mph….. but on the other end going up Cerro Summit and up and down to Gunnison it kicked ass. I never down shift from 4th gear going up the pass and it had a ton of power! If I was driving on the interstate everyday we would have to change it out but I think around Gunnison/Crested Butte its going to be awesome. I’ll see this summer. If I don’t like it at the end of summer we can change it out next winter…. Anyway the bus in general drives GREAT. Thank you guys soooo much. KCW Rocks! Best VW shop on the planet!!!!!!!!

Franz what’s that oil you use in the shop? I might order a box online.. 10  30 weight?

Good to hear, it was probably strange feeling for you to drive it lifted, after driving lowered busses for the last 10 years.

Weird for sure driving a non lowered. Everything feels like it works perfect. Drove it around a bunch last night.

 

What’s the biggest size tire I can fit in the bulkhead behind the seat, for a spare?
