That ladder rocks. I need one for my bus just like it. Can u take a few pics so we can make one 🤪😜😬WrenParticipantApril 30, 2019 at 7:26 amPost count: 166
That’s awesome! Thanks John. My folks might come up at the end of the week to babysit. I can get a ride down to GJ with them this weekend if that happens. I’ll let you know what day.
Last time I was at the shop that new axle boot was leaking. Will you look at that as well?John JonesKeymasterApril 30, 2019 at 8:47 amPost count: 6463
I saw those boots leaking.. they were just loose I think…. I tightened em up a little and it got better.. I get it off the lift i bet it won’t leak.
This weekend sounds great…. I will try and drive it a tad before then for ya….
Pics later with the awesome ladder on… I will et you handle your own wood…. 😎 😎WrenParticipantApril 30, 2019 at 8:53 amPost count: 166
Thanks John! I just ran up to my computer to post that I have a stack of some crazy hardwood here. I’ll use something cool.John JonesKeymasterApril 30, 2019 at 12:43 pmPost count: 6463
I think I have it ready for ya…. I lubed up doors and mech’s, adjusted the pass door and just made things work smoother.
Drives great!!! It gets up on it’s tippy ties when you get on it… 😎 Torsions are probably about as high as you would want them.. I’d still be careful about driving hard into tight turns…. 😎 Your tranny must have a 4.12 R/P.. Your gonna be doing 55 mph from now on…. 😎 Brakes work good, I lubed up the shifter and rod in a few spots where it was rubbing… the gears are all much easier to find… Bus drives nice… It must have a cam in it, and some outlaw heads… it likes to haul!!! and rev!!! I even mounted your church key and holder… 😎 I got about 12 hours in my time.. and you have a few parts too… I assume Franz ordered those WW parts… what about engine parts? New clutch or pressure plate or shit like that?
anyway… AWESOME bus WREN! CYA this weekend…. just guess high and bring cash… I bet it all works out fine.. 😎FranzKeymasterApril 30, 2019 at 12:57 pmPost count: 3468
Yeah! That bus looks badass!
I had 4 hours on the ladder, 4 hours on the engine, 2 air filters, 2 oil filters 2 carb rebuild kits 1 stick of 3/4 tube and 8 quarts oil…so, that is $200 in parts/supplies, plus the WW parts, and 20 hours.
lifted > loweredWrenParticipantApril 30, 2019 at 3:37 pmPost count: 166
Damn that looks good! I’m more excited about the ladder than the new engine. Engines a 1915 Baby tractor with the bigger outlaw heads. Should have a good cam. Should be a little better than the old 1915. Great job guys. It’s going to be weird driving a non lowered bus again. Its going to be fun! Should be to KCW mid morning Saturday then going to drive right back and try and work Saturday afternoon. I’ll bring you some cash JJ!John JonesKeymasterApril 30, 2019 at 4:25 pmPost count: 6463
sound great Wren…. I look forward to it… 😎John JonesKeymasterApril 30, 2019 at 6:46 pmPost count: 6463
Wren… I drove this to Roosters tonight… I think you must have a 4.37 r/p….. 50 is hauling ass!!!! But it drives great!!!!!!!!CorporateModeratorMay 1, 2019 at 1:38 pmPost count: 835
Making more progress…

Those blue buses all sort of look alike after a while anyway.ColeBModeratorMay 1, 2019 at 2:37 pmPost count: 1531
Too much dove blue, hard to keep straight for sure!WrenParticipantMay 1, 2019 at 3:07 pmPost count: 166
I hope the buses get mixed up when I pick up. I’d love to drive the BD home!
Whats the deal with the 4.37 R and P? Does that mean fast when I take off but tops out fast? Guessing it will climb hills better but sucks on the highway? What do you guys put in with the GRB, 3.88? Got to love the craigslist lottery! I’m just glad it works.FranzKeymasterMay 1, 2019 at 3:38 pmPost count: 3468
It’ll be awesome for creeping on trails and accelerating through the gears…but top speed sucks.
Yeah, a 3.88 ring & pinion will make the top speed better… JJ likes a 3.44 with a beetle .89 4th gear. vs. the overdrive .82 bus 4th.CorporateModeratorMay 1, 2019 at 4:25 pmPost count: 835
Thanks for understanding 😬😬😬😬😬🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Did Wren drive his bus home today?
Change the oil again after running a tank of gas or two through it. Drop the drain plug, don’t mess with the sump plate and pick-up filter. Valvoline racing oil with zinc, or some sort of zinc additive… The new engine has fancy dual valve spring heads and needs the good oil.John JonesKeymasterMay 5, 2019 at 6:25 amPost count: 6463
YES HE DID!!! I called him later in the day. he said it drove great!!! Better than ever!!!!WrenParticipantMay 5, 2019 at 8:29 amPost count: 166
Yeah Bus Kicks ASS! Everything works great! That new engine is AWESOME. Has great power! Thanks KCW you guys keep making this bus better and better! Not sure yet how I feel about the craigslist gear box. The gears are sooooo low. From GJ to Montrose 4th gear felt like a 3rd gear. Only had it up to about 50 mph….. but on the other end going up Cerro Summit and up and down to Gunnison it kicked ass. I never down shift from 4th gear going up the pass and it had a ton of power! If I was driving on the interstate everyday we would have to change it out but I think around Gunnison/Crested Butte its going to be awesome. I’ll see this summer. If I don’t like it at the end of summer we can change it out next winter…. Anyway the bus in general drives GREAT. Thank you guys soooo much. KCW Rocks! Best VW shop on the planet!!!!!!!!
Franz what’s that oil you use in the shop? I might order a box online.. 10 30 weight?
