Because the beam had an extended shock tower, the fully extended length of the shock is 18 1/2″. I found a 67 chevy 1/2 ton truck rear shock that fits. But had to make 1/2 to 12mm bushings.
Tie rods were knocking in the center, slightly clearanced now.
The accelerator pivot pin is about to break off. I’ll fix that too.
I think Franz has you about done mechanically and then we will fix them area’s you were concerned about… Maybe if we take your roof rack off it will fit in the dirty shop???? 😎 😎
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
Tons of little things yesterday. I welded the accl pivot, broken clutch tube mount, lowered ride height, greased the front end, Installed l/p caps and brake hose holders. Brakes are bleed, e-brake works, everything is awesome. Had some issues with the shift rod alignment. Working perfectly now.
Going over the engine this morning. Head torque and valve adjustment.
Clearanced the edge of the jack point for tire clearance.
I think the 3″ narrowed beam is going to be awesome in this. Better for tire clearance for sure. Its a caster version shocktower too (the lower tube is moved forward 1/2″). It should drive nice/strait and have better small bump sensitivity.
Looking good Franz! My big question is if the Craigs list Transmission works right ?
The transaxle is awesome. Went through all the gears great. Suspension was nice, handling was good, brakes kicked ass…
…but the engine is done. Pretty sure it spun a main bearing on the test drive. Have to see how bad it is tomorrow. Probably trashed the case.
Looks so killer, bummer on the engine
Subie time! Call Andy. 🙂
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
Well Sucks that engines gone but have been thinking this was going to happen for sometime. I’ve had that engine in two different buses. Let’s send the engine to Painters. I’m thinking of doing a basic 1915 like what it had or going up to a 2332. Is the 2332 worth the extra money? Other problem is i’ve been running 36 dellorto’s. Are they too small for a 2332? I’ve got a 55 stamped 36 hp. I had thought that would be cool cause it matches the bus but I guess it might be way to little power if I drive the bus all the time.
You can run the bigger engine on 36 dells….but I’d stick with the 1915cc. Its simple set-up. Big engines are nice though. Easily $2-3k more cost than a 1915cc. Plus, you have to do a bunch of tin/oil cooler mods.
Build the 36hp for fun. Side project. Not as a primary engine for your driver bus.
I’ve got a baby tractor sitting at Painters if you need it. The bus looks awesome!!! I saw it when I was picking up the 21 it’s a beast!
Was thinking about that engine BO. Do you want to sell it? I’ll call you later.
Going to go with a 1915.
How much do you want for that engine you have Bo? I just talked to the painters guy it may be a bit cheaper for me to build an engine out of what I have. He needs to check it out first.
No worries. I’ve got 400 in the case plus all the Painters work. If you need it it’s there.
My buddy from Denver bailed on bringing it down because of weather.
Are you going to be able to do the Ottinger Moab trip next month? 26th-28th. We can probably have your engine back in time.

Yeah I’d like to plan on it. I have a work thing that Saturday but I think it’s going to change. The other problem is I have a baby, puppy and wife. Painters guy said he could have the engine back around 2 weeks. Let’s try and get it done. Can you get rebuild kits for those dells? I know they are fine but maybe its worth rebuilding them now? I remember another thread saying you can’t get the kits anymore?
Still planning on coming to GJ this weekend! So sick of being on the ranch. SOOOO much snow and mud. I’m over it!
