Seems like our area is FULL of VW’s just sitting. Half of them arent for sale because they “are going to fix them up some day” and the other seem to have been sitting WAY too long or have been severely abused. Ran into a local guy in his mid 70’s that said he had several VW’s at his “yard” with titles that he would like to sell, including (what piqued my interest) a 61 or 62 convertible that “has a really solid body and was a complete car with the engine”. So I took off all hopeful of finding one of those hidden treasures…

Needless to say, I walked away crushed. Granted, the vert was really cool. Not sure how bad it really was underneath because after just looking under the hood and around the backside of it, the level of rot was WAY more than I wanted to deal with. Especially for his asking price of $3k.  Certainly savable, as Ive seen cars in way worse shape restored but certainly outside of my available time. Im sure he wouldve come off of the price because he thought that since it had the Wolfsburg crest on the hood that it was some “special edition”, until I explained to him what it really was. While there he told me he had some buses so of course at this point, not very hopeful I went and took a look at them. 2 bay windows and one that I guess is a 13 window. m no bus guy having never owned one and only admired them from afar.

It was pretty cool to see the Karman badge still on it.

The split window bus was so abused from him moving it around with his huge fork lift over the years and setting things on top of it. The whole bottom of the passenger side was pulled away from the chassis about a foot and a half and the roof we dented in pretty bad. The whole bus is full of VW parts too, I spotted several engine cases with the VW logo stamped in them. I think all of the glass was in it with the exception of the passenger side windshield.

Just kills me to see these things going to waste. I asked if he would be willing to sell any of the parts of the bus if they were salvagable and he said he probably would but he would raither sell the whole bus full of parts.

Not knowing busses, I have no idea if any of it is usable so just in case I tried to get as many pics as I could without tearing into it. If anyone spots anything they think they might want/need, let me know and I can run back over there and try to get a better view/pics and see what he would want price-wise. Im more than willing to grab the stuff and ship it for you.

He also showed me probably 40+ cars/trucks from the 40s, 50s and 60s. He had 3 model Ts with the wood spoke wheels sitting in a closed in barn. And a Model A truck that someone had down some work to and put rack-pinion steering and mustang. 4-cylinder in. Such a shame seeing all that history going to waste.

For sure! I’ve been racking my brain thinking of what I could do with the driver’s side of it. That side seemed salvageable at least. Had a thought of cutting that while side away, doing the metal work on it, painting it and just hanging it on the wall in my basement office… LOL..

Might could make a cool facing for a wet bar or something…

For sure @Franz ! I was talking about it with my wife this weekend. I think Im going to give him a couple weeks and then hit him up again on the vert. No way would I give him $3k for it, but it doesnt hurt to walk up there with a stack of cash and try to negotiate with him to save it. Even if I have to put it in my closed-in barn for a few months or so while Im getting the 64 back on the road. Better than seeing it go to waste.

I’ve been meaning to stop and check this bug out for a year or so now.  I finally got around to it today.  Guy named Chris owns it, super nice guy.  He owns the Beekeeping supply store on the North side of  Delta on the East side of the highway.  It’s ‘a 55 on a 60s or 70s pan.  He said he’d let it go for $15k.
