Cole has been taking temperature reading during long interstate type drives….On the case and heads with an infared gun. From months ago before it had an oil sump or type IV cooler.
The quantity of the oil helps no doubt…but I also think having the sump in good airflow is key.
We’ll see what the difference is soon enough. Rebuilding the engine in the middle of the tests was not planned. Worn-out 1914cc stock carb VS. fresh 1914cc w/dual carbs. Similar heads, compression ratio, and cam.
Looks badass Cole. Good work👏
Holy smokes! Nine quarts! A little over kill for a 1600 maybe? Don’t you also have the type4 oil cooler and air intake venture? I’m curious to see what your oil temps will be.

I think that’s a good plan. Maybe raise your ass end up too. This big butch needs as much room as it can getWillyModeratorMay 22, 2019 at 1:33 pmPost count: 742
Those things look so sturdy I think you could slam it and it would hurt whatever you smack it into more than it would damage the coolerColeBParticipantMay 22, 2019 at 6:42 pmPost count: 1146
Well…. I’m back. Time for my 1000 mile service on the new engine. I put 960 miles on my bus since last Monday. So I dropped oil, adjusted points, valves, timing. And cleaned my engine bay out… lots of dust from this weekend👍🏼 Oh ya. And added 9 new quarts of oil. Still in shock by how much it takes. Should be a happy bus for adventures this weekend.Pat KKeymasterMay 24, 2019 at 7:36 amPost count: 903

Cole’s trying to solve a small popping on deceleration, jets didn’t help. Time for a carb rebuild.

Thanks JJ! Been a lot of fun logging lots of miles the last couple weeks! All is well. I had a GREAT week/weekend and I had a good drive back home yesterday. Decided to go through Durango and up to naturita and then gateway and drop down into junction that way. Not as pretty as red mountain pass, but still a beautiful part of Colorado.
