the shop seems to be running like a sewing machine…   your rear end looks like it will be narrowed today!  I think I will take the tire up for another swapperaroo!  😎

Disassembled you’re bumpers yesterday. There in beautiful shape overall.

Both front over riders needed hammer and dolly work. Had to remove one mount to gain access to straighten it up. Ready for the blast booth.

Fit the pedal pan for beam and steering box mods.

Pulled rear suspension and trans this morning. Chopped 1 1/4”off the torsion ends, dissected castings, all fit and ready for Franz to TIG it.

Started with a 6” gap at reference point. 

Just finished marking torsion bars for a trim. 3/4” off inners, 5/8” off outer.

We will build it if it comes.

I believe the RDWs are optional, Franz??

Chopped and chamfered torsion bars. Milled 9/16” off the T3 drum snout to fit the short axle short spline beetle axles with the wider T3 drums.

Franz has been busy melting the torsion bits back together.

We will build it if it comes.

Yeah, either set of wheels now.

Welded together and paint touched up. Ready to assemble.

Here is the difference in axles…which take shorter axle tubes…which is the reason for narrowing the housing.

Short axle/short spline pre 67 type 1 vs. long axle/long spline type 3(&68 beetle).

Love narrowed torsion, old school lowering, so clean and simple when done, my buddy did that in 1998 along with a narrowed bus beam, I always idolized him for it, he still has the bus. It’s pretty much exact same except it has a Subaru motor in it so we decided to not talk anymore….

It’s tough having to loose a friend over their incomprehensible choices….that said…to each their own….🙄🙄
