Getting the engine set up with Weber’s today.

The intake ports look clean except for number 1. Maybe had a poor valve adjustment or lean a/f mix? Cole said it passed the leak-down test a few weeks ago.

Looks like something is up. I got 12% leak down or less on all cylinders. So I’d hope it’s a bad valve adjust. Or maybe a bad carb adjust like you said. We will have to keep an eye on it. Luckily not our race motor. Just needs to last until the big race.

But maybe a seat or a guide… should have seen that though in the leak down numbers…

I believe the heads you have are the late units that were used with a smog pump.  The pump hooked up to the vent in the head.   Those were notorious for running lean.

I don’t think there are any other differences other that the vent at the top of the head.

That is a crankcase breather vent in the head. Not a smog port.

Check out the casting date on these Webers. Brand new 2020!

I looked over the carbs, made sure everything is tight, and set the floats to 13mm. Off-road float bowl vents from cb performance to prevent the fuel from sloshing out on rough terrain.

Since the engine is apart, I went ahead and retorqued the heads and adjusted valves.

Race prepped valve covers to keep the gasket in place. And wire tie washers on the outside to prevent rocks from knocking the bails off.

I plugged the oil filter lines too. How about the fuel pump? Are we keeping mechanical or going electric?

Hell ya. Looking good! I think we are running electric. Keep the fuel cool. And we can carry an extra pump in case. Extra mechanical one as well if we feel nervous

The engine is looking nice with dual 40 Weber’s and UMP air boxes. I hope this will fit in the car. I’m going to try tomorrow.9C93730E-1CDF-4500-AF48-E8E4FA9CD68D

Phenolic spaces from the solex carbs needed the holes elongated a bit.903ACDE7-6631-4B01-9263-8427953FFFBFAD0B2D28-51EB-4EBE-B08F-55A015486731AF6ED655-B013-4B3E-9C94-6BE9A4612581

Removed the Aniti-vibration oil cooler mounts and used washer/spacers to solid mount.

There were a few extra holes and cracks in the tin that I repaired, along with plugging the warm air risers.

Engine installed today, I power washed the CV joint grease off of the bottom side of the car first thing. Now we can work without getting slimed.

It looks like the air box is going to interfere with the cross tube on the C pilars. Good thing the cage is only tacked together. I can move the cross tube to the top side of the firewall.

The hinges look like they will barely clear. Fingers crossed. I’m going to drop the engine back out to remove the tube and try again.

Man! No fit on the ump boxes. They are a hair too tall. I don’t see any reason why I can’t cut 1” out of the base and re weld it. should make the firewall hole location better too.

Touching in the last picture. Plus not able to lift over the stud or jet holders.

oh man…. that sounds like a whole bunch of work.,  too bad you can’t use some CB turbo air cleaner tops… then run a hose to the big air cleaner?

Cut, cleaned, and ready to weld. Using an old carb to keep the flange flat.
