Tank painted today. Extra large rally tank. 80L if I remember right. We leak tested it this afternoon after Franz had to “modify” it to fit the larger tires.
pat got the rear end all dialed. Ready for wheels and tires in the rear.
some wiring got done in the engine compartment and a fluids change was performed.
we brainstormed interior layout tonight. Nav, trip meter, fire extinguishers, hydration system, horn, fuel pump switch, door panels, storage, etc. coming along!FranzModeratorApril 1, 2021 at 10:11 pmPost count: 4080
I didn’t say much about catching the car on fire in January while I was welding cage gussets under the dash. 🔥 ☹️
The welding paper/masking tape caught on fire under the headlight switch wiring. It looked wose than it was….
….I was able to replace a pig tail and do some soldering to repair the wiring today. Good to have that fixed.RustabusParticipantApril 2, 2021 at 6:38 amPost count: 2247

I’ve been slacking on posting. Time to catch up.
Glued loose edges of headliner, cleaned and installed trim and quarter windows yesterday.
Started fitting the pass side floorboard template around tubes.
We will build it if it comes.Pat KModeratorApril 2, 2021 at 8:20 amPost count: 1876
Tuesday I started on front brakes but we ran in to some parts issues. Moved onto the rear ended assembly.
Pressed in new bearings & OG hubs.
Bit of grinding required to clear the new gussets for the stub shaft to slip in.
A little more grinding once the CV axles were cleaned up and fit.
Between Tue & Wed I was able to get both sides together.
Working on driver side floorboard fit this morning.
We will build it if it comes.RSP3ParticipantApril 2, 2021 at 9:51 amPost count: 217

Rear T straps on! Looks like some dash modifications are about to commence!FranzModeratorApril 2, 2021 at 9:02 pmPost count: 4080
Not many options for mounting the Garmin navigation. We mounted it to the dash like Benton did on the silver 1967 porsche from 2019’s race. Easy to see for the driver and co-driver.ColeBModeratorApril 3, 2021 at 10:57 amPost count: 2156

Bunch of wiring today. Modified some stuff to suit our needs. Installed switches and a usb plug in place of a cigarette lighter.
Pat mounted and plumbed up dual fuel pumps with check valves. Should hide under the foot board.
Battery kill switch with alternator field wire to prevent regulator damage.Pat KModeratorApril 4, 2021 at 12:41 pmPost count: 1876
That fuel pump plumbing was a chore!
Cut the factory hardline up front at the tunnel exit. Worked it back and reshaped to it exit into the pass footwell.
Fabed and fit the new fuel supply hard line from tunnel bulkhead to pumps this morning.
Finished plumbing connections, mounted pump relays, and started on wiring also. My Grandpa still helps me every day.
Late update. Finished driver floor board fit.
Brake and clutch pedal stops cleaned up and moved over form original floorboard.
We will build it if it comes.Audrey JonesModeratorApril 5, 2021 at 12:43 pmPost count: 388
A couple different views of the work going on in the clean shop right now…
“work” 🤔😅ColeBModeratorApril 5, 2021 at 3:39 pmPost count: 2156
Pat on glove box and under dash storage! With the cage the old glovebox didn’t fit. So pat is making a new one👍🏼 Looking good. Under dash storage for route notes and other paperwork as wellFranz working on a radio block off plate for the rugged radios intercom and a fuel pump toggle switch. Doug even showed up to start on some interior pieces. Working on some carpetFranzModeratorApril 5, 2021 at 9:57 pmPost count: 4080
We have most of the layout and wiring figured out. Led light strips w/dimmer for cockpit lighting.
Also added a second hood/truck light housing..which is the same 64+ beetle.
Pat’s aluminum glove box and cubby work is badass.
