Pat and I patched most of the sheet metal today. Good day!
Tacked sheet metal every 1/2”, and will get covered with seam sealer. No reason to fully weld…and makes it easier to cut a panel out in case of repair or inspection.
I turned the end of the breaker bar to fit the stock jack as a handle. I think we’re going to weld mounts across the rear of the engine bay for it.
Fantastic project for an event I’ve always wanted to be part of.
I’ve got a question about the mounting of the tire in the trunk. From this picture, it looks like it’s supported above the fuel tank by two tubes of the cage that run to the front skid plate. I’m guessing that the weight of the wheel and tire is not meant to be supported by the tank.
What I’m thinking is that in the event you have a flat and have to carry it in the trunk, it’s possible that when tied down with those straps snugged up, the pressure may force the deflated tire between those two tubes to rest on the tank. You may want to devise a method which would support the weight of the tire/wheel in case a flat or destroyed tire won’t hold the weight and it’s resting on the fuel tank. That might not be such a good thing, especially with all the nasty surfaces you’ll be running on.
It might be a non-issue, but perhaps something to think about if you hadn’t already.
Again, great job and I’m super jealous about the upcoming adventure with the P to P. Good luck!
The 100 liter gas tank is pretty study with the internal baffles. I already took a sledge hammer to it to make room for the spare. 😀
Spring loaded breaker bar mounts and super stock jack. We’re ready to prep for paint I think. Anything else mounting-wise we should make permanent? Planning to drill holes in the gussets for tie downs, and strap mounts on the floor for tools/parts.
Welding paper off today….It’s still a good looking car.
Pat finished seat mounting, we installed chromoly seat belt tabs, and drilled a whole bunch of holes in the gussets behind the seats.
We welded in some luggage hooks under the seats, cleaned welds, and gave it a good wash today. Paint next week.
What a cool car.. what a cool build… WHAT A COOL RACE!!!! This will be an experience!!! I wish we had more customer enthusiasm on this one… they are probably all excited on the inside…. 😎 Shasta would have been great prep for this race for you Kevin…
This car is a monster! Can’t wait to see it all built out!
Col car, cool build, cool race. can’t wait to see how you guys do!!!
Man Franz! You guys are killing it. Can’t wait to see it in paint! Back to work for me tomorrow! It’s go time! Sounds like we will be doing some suspension testing in Grand Junction this spring😎😎 then I’ll drag this thing up to Spokane to put the new motor and trans in(which I’ll be starting to put together tomorrow). Can’t wait! Going to be an awesome adventure. The build and the racing!
I’m glad Franz is about done with all hid fabrocation and welding and splatter clean up… OMG…. I feel like he will put it back together pretty quick now…. You and Jack better GTF on it.. 😎 😎 😎
Alright pulled everything off the shelf and have been doing inventory! We’ve got heads and case back from machine work. SCAT crank ready to go. We sent the crank, flywheel and a clutch kit out to DPR to be checked and balanced. We had an issue with a SCAT crank on a 356 build and want to make sure we will have easy assembly. P’s and C’s are here on the shelf. Cam too. We are ordering some Carrillo rods today as well as rings and bearings. Then it should be game on for the motor.
I pulled the trans down as well and we are going through all the internals today so we can order what we need. Luckily this trans core turned out to be nice inside. Making moves. 👍🏼
Franz and I have been going back and forth about final details of the build. I just want to get stuff rolling up here and then we get to do some suspension testing in Grand Junction😎 that’ll be fun.
Sweet!
We’ve been helping on John’s race car the last couple days. Back on this, paint prep on Thursday!
We’ve been doing paint prep all day. Masking for trunk and engine bay paint now.
We will build it if it comes.
Franz is spraying epoxy sealer now.
We will build it if it comes.
