This is Franz old 1964 that I picked up a couple of months ago. This is intended to be a daily driver for my wife so I am going with what she wants.  She told me she preferred something with some patina and that she always wanted a “race” car.  I started showing her pics of cars and realized she really liked the old rally car look with the  Brundage VW as her favorite.  She said she wanted it to look like we had found an old rally car barn find so that’s what I’m going to try and pull off.EF4C77F2-C043-4AB4-8850-1D8C63D8E00Bso I have the engine and transmission out and am in the process of replacing the transmission.  This will be my first time doing this and so far it’s been great finally being able to spend time in the garage. Flywheel chewed up but everything else looks alright.  Since this is my first rodeo I would really appreciate any insights and I’d like to ask all you out there before I put my order in tonight all the things I should do/buy while the motor and trans are out8D89D573-7C87-4563-B554-94FA42699AC6

526AA974-83B3-407E-939E-D205C29A83B0For reference this was her favorite.
I still want to do something with the front and I’ll bug Franz for a good about that after she’s going again.

questions: (disclaimer, Franz already told me this when I bought it but I was stoned and forgot). What size flywheel was I supposed to get? I’m still running the 6v starter but I did have new trans ground for the 12.

And I named her Bess after my grandma.  Ain’t that cute.  Please throw as many ideas/suggestions as you would please.  After all these years I finally thought my self how to post pics so maybe I’ll post more. Hopefully if I post/ document  More I’ll maintain motivation!!  I always like the old posts from the build offs and everyone showed off their personal builds.

I like the CB performance Rhino mounts for the trans. I have had 50/50 luck with stock trans mounts not coming apart. Just my two cents.

I don’t see a roll cage in the pictures, but if your wife is as enthusiastic a VW driver as mine, I’d make that a priority.

So you have a 40hp with a 6 volt flywheel and starter running on 12 volts. You have to keep that stuff. A 12 volt flywheel has different crank interface.

My best advice for a car for your wife is make it reliable 😀 If it breaks it will be your fault since you built it.

YEAH!!!!!!….Dougs back.    Lowered is hard, stock is reliable, fast is fun and hard.

How many helpers do you have?? How excited are they?

We will build it if it comes.

Yeah reliability will be the most important…..all show, no go!!  She works less than a mile from home and the speed limit to her job only gets to 35 MPH so the 40 hp will last for a while.  she is not a real fan of the lowered look but i am trying to talk her into at least a 2 inch beam or drop spindles. there used to be a black oval that would show up on the forums every once in a while…i think his name was chris?…anyway slight drop with whitewalls was a cool look and id like to show her that if any one knows what im talking about and has a pic.

By most of your guys’ standards this wont be much of an exciting build but its my first time really tearing into the car and i am really enjoying myself and learning alot.

Pat…I am a one man band down here, (pretty fucking excitable though!) but at least I’m close to KCW if get in over my head.  Saving benjamins to come see you Pat!!

    thanks for the feedback all..

Hell yeah i got them on! I even get to return the extra one you gave me in case I tore one.  Everything done, waiting on a flywheel before i put everything back in.  Do you think i should order a new nose cone and hockey stick while i am at this point?
