Don’t be scared! Dig in!! First take the Honda to AutoZone or Napa and get a thermostat for a 2000 Subaru Legacy with a 2.5 engine. Get the thermostat and the o ring. Maybe $10 bucks for both.

Go home, get a drain bucket that fits under the back of the Van. Looking at the motor, bottom right side of the engine you’ll see where that radiator hose connects. Have your dude undo it so they can get coolant all over them self’s. I think that hose clamp is a flat screw driver. Then you’ll see 2 10mm bolts, remove them. You’ll see the thermostat I cut inside, remove it, replace it with the new one, reassemble.

Get a funnel, dump all the cooanlt back into that inline filler(top right of the engine with the radiator hose connected to it).

Now remember what you spilled and what didn’t make it back into the system needs to go back in the bus.

Go upfront, and remove the front top grill. You’ll see the radiator has a 10mm or 13mm bolt in the top left side, remove that, and pour coolant into that hole until no more goes in. Its a slow process, kinda takes some fucking with, but it will go in. Reinstall.

once you think it’s full, Fire it up and make sure the radiator is warming up after 5 or so minutes. Don’t go drive it until you can tell the whole cooking system has been warm.

Watch for the dummy light on the dash!!!

It sounds complicated, but you can do it.

Couldn’t have done it without all the help!! FaceTimed my Dad this morning to find the location of the thermostat, Franz gave me some good tips on the phone, and Andy has been helping me via text all day!

Currently waiting a bit for things to cool back down so I can add more coolant/water back in… but Andy thinks I did it all right, so that’s good news!!! I am pretty proud I did it by myself and didn’t pay anyone.. now hopefully it worked!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Landon caught a pic of me while unscrewing those damn bolts… 😅

Thats MY girl!!!!  😎   Proud of you babe!!!  But I was proud of you long before yesterday!!!! 😎  I’m excited that you have heat!!! Funny how heat is such a high value thing in a VW… 😎   I’m proud of you for handling it, and doing it right there in the parking lot… 😎   Can’t wait to see you this weekend.. 😎

Thanks Andy!! 😎 We are so close to having it all done!! I’m so happy the heat works now!! Thank you for being my on-call advice line! 😁

Thanks Dad!!! 😊 Yes, I thought I could keep toughening it out, but I am very excited to have heat – and it works really well too!! Can’t wait to see you this weekend!!!

The radiator finally started to get warm on the third or fourth time trying last night, and just as it did I ran out of gas from having it running so much yesterday! Damn it! Got some gas late last night, now I’m gonna head back out there in a little while to add more water/coolant to the front to see if we can get this last bubble out and get her warmed all the way up!!
