I’d sure like a early truck…. hummm…. But I just took almost a month off work….. 8-(
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
All the beautiful snow has kept me busy, not much shop time. The 58 sc is getting it’s time on the lift. This little hack:
The spring plate bolts got loose and broken back in the day, so someone got all farmer on it.
Tried to drill the bolts, no go. I think they might have been welded on. Off with the RGB, axle tube, spring plate… motor out. Kind of a lot of work to fix something that’s been working for 30 or 40 years!
WTF? I’m all about farmer hacks…but sometimes it seems easier to fix things the correct way.
The 58 single has been in the spotlight for the last couple weeks. Got the farmer hack repaired with a new rgb box and springplate, did it the hard way with the trans in, and cleaned all the gunk off the underside in the rear end area, axle boots, gear oil… and a puddle under it in the morning. had to redo the axle tube for some reason. But it holds oil now.
A general cleanup and look inside the treasure chest revealed some rust going on down there, the screw holes and some small spots in the bed had been letting water get in and hang out with all the dirt, so broke out the welder
My bed is all tight now and will keep the water out but the gas tank was loose and rotted thru on 1 side so about a square foot of floor and a new gas tank mount went in the treasure chest area, fun fun fun!
Not bad in there besides the spot under the gas tank. I’ve etched the surface rust best I can and am heading for a little rust bullet and some epoxy primer. Confined Space area!
Rocker was tired so a new one was ordered from Gerson. Of course the inner looked good from underneath but was thin and slightly pinholed so that came out too, which meant the in front of rear wheel piece had to come off, which was thin anyway, and C and D post repairs at the TT door.
The official contour template for post fabrication 🙂
Some really ugly scrapes on the TT door post with lots of really hard grey bondo holding it together, smells like jb weld when I sand it. So that all got fixed better.
All this fucking work to get my beater truck ready for chores, and it hardly looks any different than before.
Damn jeff ! thats a lot of work !
Truck still looks badass ! Great to see ya the other day
So glad to be done with the hell hole!
Rust bullet under the tank, epoxy prime everywhere and liberal amounts of Rustoleum thru the gun. No more rust!!
OG fire engine red!
Damn ! Look at that floor !
Here here. That is a solid looking single cab. I’m jealous.
Yeah this one’s way nicer that the 60 pos!! Just some bullet holes and a replaced nose. Primed and painted my dividers and gas tank, ready to go back together.
Single is back on the ground, half cab is on the slab. All the other trucks got a lube and tune so thee freak needs it too.Admiring my only early style cradle 🙂
Nice looking trucks !
Ready for work
55-56 truck?
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎
Thats a 55 wolfsburg cradle for sure. Does the bus have Barndoor dog legs?
Yeah, 55. Has the 3 piece doglegs. Truck’s been modified a little though. 🙂
Old pic, I sure miss Domino 🙁
