Shifters

Looking at quick shifter options for small ball bus shift rod. Have a quick shift spacer setup in the bus now, although it's OK, it' not as smooth as I'd like. I remember Luftcraft put a shifter in John's old BDSC. Anyone remember the name? I think it was made in England and pretty pricey.

Bugtech.

They have like 62% reduced throw. Creig has one in his blue car also.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

edit:
Soon as I typed bugtech in the search engine, a KCW link popped up. I was looking all over the site last night. ](*,)

Small ball shifter suck. I have the best luck/adjustment with stock stuff.

Those bugtech shifters are fancy enough for a space shuttle. I don't like the reverse lock-out mechanism. It has a tendency to side load and bind on the studs.

I do like the later stuff. My old '66 bus shifted like a dream even with the aftermarket extended piece.

I don't know if Vintage Speed makes them for the early buses, but I have one of their new design shifters for my '65 and it works great.

Local buddy here here has a small ball berg in his 57 single...shifting sucks! Gregs 65 has a vintage tiwameeze speed big ball :-s me and Jrod had to crawl under that thing (slammed on 16's or 17's) with the 55 vert on a tow bar behind it all over Vancouver (in traffic) cause it kept popping out of the cup ](*,) half dozen times #-o
But I think he had more issues than the shifter?

What's stopping a guy from converting an early bus to a later shifter? Forward rod/bushing retainer and shifter? Seems simple in my mind?

^^^ I was thinking of trying that conversion. I have a late front shift rod piece and a gear shift lever. Just need the correct height cup and spring for the shift lever.

Edit:
Just saw this on Vintage Speed site.

I only use stock. No quick shift kit, no extention.

Of course if you have not rebuilt with a quality transmission and shifter bushing forget having decent shifts .That's a battle you will never win.
