Thanks Ben! I could go into a LOT more detail, but I'm trying to keep it on the short and sweet side for the forum. I should have kept a journal, so much crazy shit happened that I'm sure I forgot about. Everyday was a new adventure!

We stopped for gas in Tuba City and had a guy tell us that he had a 49 split window beetle just up the road. Kind of blew him off. Maybe you should go check that out.

You guys see money in all these old junky busses....all I see is headaches and work.

Thanks for the tip! Wink This 21 was right off a main drag, right out in the open. I couldn't believe it lasted there as long as it did. But in Tuba City, no one gives a shit about old VW's.

It still blows my mind that we decided to go bus hunting and the first split we put on the trailer was a 21 window. Unreal. That was the turning point for us, that's what gave us equity to really make some bigger investments.

Yep, that's the stuff.

A couple weeks ago I painted the spare wheel and had the tire mounted. Been playing with bikes a lot lately.

Anyone remember this junk I bought from Goodwill last July?

It all came together in my head a few weeks ago so I finally tore into it. Only thing I saved from the original bike was the frameset, which is beautiful, lightweight lugged chromoly. The rest was heavy fucking steel garbage. I had nearly every component in my stash, the only parts I had to buy were wheels, tires, fenders, bar end caps, and one brake cable.

It's my new commuter. The most practical bike I've ever built!

Looks nice Zack. I should have you fix up my "Traveler" that Kevin gave me last summer. Need rims and TLC.

Thanks! I'm really stoked how it turned out. The levers and calipers are old Dia-Compes that were on my Voyageur (turned fixed gear) originally. They came drilled from the factory.

I'd love to Ben, but I think distance kills that deal ](*,) Let me know if you need any parts or advise.

Yep. Distance kills. Especially in the internet age. We talk on line like were next door, but are half way across the country.

I would like to score some nice straight chrome rims. I'll have to check on the size. 27x?. Not sure.

Depends on the year of the bike. Could be a couple different sizes.

Time to let this go. Very rare bike. Of course anyone here gets a better deal.

Zack, I finally checked my rim sizes. They are 27" x 1 1/4". Chrome steel. I was looking on Amazon and E-bay and saw 27" x 700c, Is that a comparable size?

Hey Ben, those are very similar but not the same. 27" is an old size that isn't used anymore. The bike I just built had 27's originally but I converted it to 700c (100x more options for tires available). When looking for tires for your 27" wheels make sure they have an ISO of 630mm. 700c uses 622mm.

Yesterday was a shit fucking day. My dads garage in AZ burned down, destroyed everything we had in there. His eleven year long 34 Ford project, all of his tools, every stupid fucking "cool guy part" I had been hoarding for my 55 oval for the last 15 years is all gone. And so much more. Incalculable loss. His garage was his life, he is beyond devastated. I need to take a break from cars, maybe for good. I'm not going to be around here for a while, if someone needs me I can be reached at sacs67@yahoo.com

Peace
