No starter I assume. Bummer on the propeller.

NO starter. You hand prop them. Pretty easy. Most 2-srokes have pull rope starters. Your higher end airplane engines have starters. Just two much weight in the ultra light category.

New prop will only be $150.00 or so. Guy in Texas makes them.
Let me draw you a fucking picture!

Haven't been doing much John. Blowing up the front nacelle, the wood was all rotten from sitting in the weather. Plus I need to figure out how to post pictures from my I-phone. My computer is slow as hell and sucks balls, and won't accept pics from my phone. I hate windows 8. ](*,) ](*,)

I'll get some progress up soon.

I been sitting here waiting....didn't want to push. I have been up a few times in ultra-lights. You need to pick your conditions VERY carefully. Gusty wind makes for a scary ride. 8-[

I'll try to keep you all interested. But got to tell you the flying is a ways off. I'm reworking some previous sub-standard stuff that I was unhappy with that lead to me selling the project in the first place. New job has me hopping too. Just got to keep up the hour a day montra.

When you get it done. You'll have to fly up here. Smile I'll find you a place to land...right across the street from my house. We'll tuck the plane in my backyard. Smile

Played with my 1/2 VW engine yesterday. Did some out side the block lightening. Cut off the bell housing, all the big lugs I could get a cut-off wheel near, took the rim off the oil pump plate, shortened all the 8mm studs I could reach, and through drilled all the bottom 8mm case bolts. I think I lost about a pound and a half according to my bathroom scale. I will finish the upper case bolts today. About all I can do externally. I'm going to tear the engine down and do some internal stuff to. But that will be later down the road. Kind of want to run this puppy again real soon.

interesting... Are those 8mm bolts drilled out going through the case?

I wonder if you could grind ALL those fins off the case??? that would be huge..

Yes John. They go all the way through. If I drill out anything going inside case, I would do very care full depth measurement to insure not going through and causing a leak. I'm only doing on non-load bearing bolts.

As for grinding off the fins, You would lose oil cooling ability.

I think you should grind em all off... Smooth that case out like a hot chicks ass!!!!!!! There might be enough air flow to keep it cool.. maybe half the ribs...

Was that 1/2 motor that Keith at painters made 1/2 a case too? 1/2 a crank etc? :-k :-k :-k :-k

Not aware of a Painter's built half VW. Be an excellent builder source though. :-k

Think I will leave the oil cooling fins for now. I have some pictures coming soon.

Kieth's was similar to this.

Hey Ben, do you think a re-phased engine could be built? If DPR could do the crank.
