57 OVAL

Postby speedjeans » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:09 pm

Well, with the SC in the corner, waiting for some more inspiration I started with an in-between project.

A 57 oval I picked up a month ago. Original from sweden, but in Belgium for many years. Been off the road now for a while and looked pretty good when I first saw it.

plan: drop it to the floor with airride, tranny raise, and drive it to norway in July..

So first thing I did when I got it home is strip it:

Body had never been welded. (everything was rivited). The complete right front panel (on pic) had been replaced in the past, and all rivited.

Some rust on the rear corners and lower heater, so.. body off

started some welding.

raised the floorpans

designed and built the front beam:

some airride stuff and tranny raise:

tranny raise front/rear. Will mount bus nosecone on the gearbox. That way i can raise the front of the box by 1inch

installed some airride brackets.

to ben honest.. I don;t know.. :-(

I just know they rewelded the upper eye (normally they have threated ends). But these are shorter than the shortest eye-eye shocks (if that make sense).

the only thing I know is that I had to reweld/relocate the lower shockmount. Which gives me major clearance issues with the tie-rod, so prob have to go with a central tie rod.
