Blasted today, and painted in the near future. Wren, do you want kevin to get all fancy and 2-tone them?

I’m ok with whatever. I like the grey hubcap look. Was fine with white but two tone could be cool. Follow what your heart tells you Kevin.

Had a great morning working on the car. Have not touched the thing the last two weeks. Kevin painted some wheels for me last week. Look Great. Put a new steering wheel in. Also hooked up the engine in the car. 40 hp alykat (John) had sitting around. We started up the engine before I put it in the car. I know I have the wiring set up right but can’t get the engine to turnover. Not getting anything. Turn the key and both lights turn on but nothing. Anyone have an answer. Also the clutch does not feel right. Put a clutch from a 1600 on. Are they different from the 40hp??? I know stupid questions. Messed around with the ski rack. Going to have to build a box about 6 times as big. Skis have got a lot wider than from the 50s. Hope to get it driving by the end of the weekend.

I believe a 40hp would have a 6V flywheel and a 1600 would have a 12V so the clutches are different as well. If the 40hp has been converted to 12V with the bigger flywheel you need to clearance your trans bellhousing for the bigger flywheel. It sounds like what happened in my '59 when the traans was not clearanced enough. If you put a wrench on the crank pulley nut and turn it clockwise does the bolt just tighen up and stop or does the crank rotate? If the crank does not rotate you gotta pull that motor out and see what's up with the flywheel and clutch. Get alykat to tell you what clutch he has on it. Good luck.

If you can't run with the big dogs....

6v

It had the 6V flywheel and I thought I'd left a clutch on it ? Glad to hear you got it going. When we fired it at my place I had a 6v starter and just temp 12 V coil and jump 12V from the truck as I couldn't find a 6V battery around here. In the past I stepped up to an overall 12V system but just left the 6V starter in the car to match the flywheel. Just never cranked to long at any time so as not to heat it up, and never had any problems.
911 operator: What is your emergency ? Me: Some asshole just pulled out in front of me & totaled my car! 911: Are you injured? Me: No. 911: Is the other driver injured ? Me: Not yet....but you should probably send an ambulance.

Super happy with the engine John (alykat). Running great. Don’t think it’s going to go over 60 but should be fun for the summer.
Got a ton of great cheap/frees parts for this rig. Thanks to all you guys I got parts from Alykat, Mr. Jobe, Senor Ryan, Craig. All good stuff. Smile

Got my magic part in the mail today that’s been holding me up and got this thing on the road today. My friend took some terrible pictures. It pops out of 4th gear is that a clutch adjustment or is that a bad transmission? If you hold the stick in 4th it seems to drive fine??? Next step is to try and get all this dark blue paint off. Messed around a little with oven cleaner seems to take the new paint off and keep the original paint on. Put the canoe rack on the car as well looks sort of stupid but will be fun to have the canoe on the car for some river trips this summer.
