"Big Ben's '69 shack" project

Postby BBWB » Mon Mar 27, 2017 5:01 pm

Rolled this '69 shell into the back yard tonight. Plan is to hack the shit out of it from the 'B' pillar back. Build up a skeleton and enclose. Big enough for me to stand in and sleep cross wise. Going to call it the "69 Shack". Power has yet to be decided, but will be water cooled for sure.

^^^ I'm going to copy Snail Trail's idea. I will use light weight 3/4" square tube for my upper frame work instead of aluminum like he did. Bottom portion will be the same design he used. I'm not sure yet of my profile. Got to play with some drawings.

I've always liked the proportions of the "Cool Flo" camper:

I like the 'Cool Flow' look too. Hopefully I can get a little play time on this, this weekend. I got an airplane to get done for a friend, so need to put some time on that as a priority. I've put a finish by Jan '18 as a loose dead line. Would like to take it to Havasu. :-k Maybe.

I know, right! Luxury for me. Don't forget the standing up part either. Wink

Spent an hour last night sweeping pine needles out and dreaming. There's a butt load of work to get done. First thing is going to be "strip it and flip it". Got to get a good under carriage going before anything else.
One thing I noticed is the beam is later model. Can I use early bay side plates and build this beam to fit? I don't see why not. I'm flip flopping on whether to raise or lower this one. Cool Flow looks killer lowered, but I like the off-road clearance too. Got to commit to one or the other. :-k

Nothing yet. I almost started stripping it on Sunday, but decided to go ride your motorcycle first. Smile Then I put some time in on this airplane I'm building for a friend.

You're welcome anytime my friend. We have a pool here in the back yard, and I could hang my hillbilly a/c on your bus. Although, I would recommend the winter. Wink Not as hot as summer time. Smile
