'71 Nose Job

Postby VWsArent4Hippies » Wed Nov 23, 2016 8:30 am

Winter project, '71 Westy that had a little bit of run in with a mini van. Stupid solid bus, dare I say rust free? Luckily most of the damage was over the frame rails, so not too terrible. Passenger side A pillar got pushed back a hair, going to take it to a local body shop i've used before that will let me throw it on their frame machine to put it back proper. Hope to be camping in this thing come spring time, we'll see. Anywho, pictures:

Pulled the camper stuff out to fix speaker holes, recover seats, and put a new floor down

Some under the driver's side vent window, like every other baywindow. Not bad

Found a little bit of time to get the donor torn apart and ready for the blaster. Will probably need some repair on the windshield ledge, and very bottom. Surprised at how nice it is under the spare tire mount. Not too bad

911 operator: What is your emergency ? Me: Some asshole just pulled out in front of me & totaled my car! 911: Are you injured? Me: No. 911: Is the other driver injured ? Me: Not yet....but you should probably send an ambulance.

Right??

I got the beam back from the blaster yesterday, so I went ahead and squirted some paint on it before it rusts. I wanted to try this Eastwood chassis black, since it's catalyzed and will actually harden. Sprayed pretty nice and left a nice finish.
