La GORDA

Postby Grand pooh-bah » Thu Mar 21, 2013 9:31 am

Well, I've been a user on this site but I have never been able to post anything till now. I bought my DC a few years back and its gone thru a few stages . I got several ideas where I wanted to go with it from my friends and member projects on this forum. I just want to share it with everyone for some inspiration to all the guys out their working on projects.

Here it is when I brought it home. AROD found it on Craigslist and called me. First thing in the morning I called in SICK and it was Northbound for about 3 hour.

Since it was a "driver", first line of business was an altitude adjustment, porsche disc brake conversion, new pop outs, and new shoe's.

This is how I rolled it for about a year then I got the idea to do up the interior "ONLY" for the upcoming show in 2 weeks, but my buddies AROD and RAMZIE tricked me into something else. #-o

That thing is so dope. I love early bay windows, and being its a double cab makes it even cooler. Clean early bay doubles are seldomly seen, and a clean dumped ones are even fewer.

Great job. Have any other pictures of it layed out?

Very nice double cab! Are those 944 disk brakes front and rear? How narrow is your beam and how much did you lower it all together? I also would like to see some more pics of it!

Thanks everyone! The truth is before I got it I was looking for a Early Bus, but this came across and the deal was to good then I fell in love. =P~

I got a 4 inch spindle to spindle adjustable beam from Franklins. the spindles are bay/944 so the disk brakes bolt right up. The rear has the conversion plates made by Russel at Oldspeed plus horse shoe plates made by Wagen West.

Now the build dont end there. About a year later it went into phase 2.

It started by "Oh let me get the bed blasted and cleaned up"

Then, "Oh , Im just going to do the seats for the show"

Image

Later, I put a call in to my buddies the Rodriguez Brothers and they CON me into a full paint job, new seals, headliner, rug etc ](*,) and the shows only 2 weeks away.

DID I MENTION ALL THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN ON MY DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE!

Those D-90's are awesome. I love those rims. Back when I had my notchback I wanted to get a set of those and powdercoat them gloss black.

Your bus is rad. I'm with John. Id roll the wheels off of it.

Your double cab is sick! I love it, one of the best looking early bays I have ever seen! I have been thinking about putting 944 disk on my 70 bay but may wait a while. Thanks for the info!

Thanks! I highly recommend the 944 brake set up. FYI , I'm running the stock master cylinder w no booster.

Still not DONE!

I don't think a project is ever done! I really want the 944 disk set up for two reasons - 1 stopping power 2 to run Porsche pattern wheels. Thanks for sharing your double cab and the information!

Well here's phase 3.

I scored a set of 8x15 and 9x15 Fuchs off a 911 RS for peanuts.

This pic was taken after I had them polished and detailed by MAGRO here in Florida.
