1957 23 Windowz

Postby dcguy » Fri Nov 14, 2014 8:33 pm

So some guy randomly emails says he has a bus for sale and sends me a picture.

Image

So, yeah. What am I supposed to do? His directions are super vague, and about 10 hours driving time away, in the middle of nowhere. RIGHT. I talk to him a bit more and he seems serious and not just trolling me and I have nothing better to do, so I set off on my journey. Expecting the worst (a 20 hour round tripper) but I wound up with a nice object!

Image

As I was smiling ear to ear (I won't get into the 8 hours of loading it from a really tricky location), I got pulled over. Whee! Didn't even bother me. The BC RCMP guy was a little put off by me agreeing to everything that he didn't even give me a fine. But he had to tow my truck and trailer because of some tight British Columbia Dot restrictions. Alberta is more redneck I guess (my truck is a beast, it has a winch hanging off the deck and it probably is the ugliest truck in oil boom town Alberta, but I saves my money for buses!).

Image

They towed me to a yard and the tow guy was nice enough to drop me off at a hotel. It was a bit worrying to leave my nice treasure trove in some random town yard, but the cop said he would personally check on it! In the morning, I got things sorted out and headed home.

Cool story. Where in BC did you find it?

Great score

Yes the bus came from interior BC, it's got a long storied past. Originally from California, then traveled around north. It broke down in Vancouver, the engine was removed and it was parked for a long time.

It came with a 'few' parts :) Extra doors, trim etc. Back there is the middle seat and somewhere in there is apron/decklid etc.

There's dents, dings, rust and the bulkhead is hacked, but I am OKAY with it.... \:D/ The flipper in me wanted to turn it as soon as I got it. I'm not a rich guy, I struggle with keeping my VW hobby separate from real life finances so some buses get sent away (not by my choice, I would keep them all), but lucky for me, I'm going to forget about buying some other stuff and keep a few . TOP RAMEN diet coming up! Smile

Says the guy with TWO 356's and how many buses? :) Sometimes you make the call and sometimes the call makes you.

Don't you have a '56 23 window and a pressed bumper 15 as well? Seems like you've scored some really big ones over the years. Congrats!
