All short axles have short splines. All type 3 drums have long splines. You need to machine the snout down on the drum to make it work.

If it has the "hybrid" axle tubes (short end casting, extended tube, long axles) it won't work on a barndoor. Barndoor torsion housings are the same width as a Beetle, later busses are about 3" wider. Use standard tubes with either short or long end castings.

Ya it's all good I have short end castings and axles to match, I just have never machined any type three drums, wanted to make sure we weren't gonna do something irreversible I have done the early bus ones but none of these, barndoors are great for the fact that u can bolt in any swing axle beetle trans, but we are trying to keep the track as narrow as possible to be able to have some deep ass sprints out back!!!

Kcw order has landed looks like this week will be fun!!!

Right on. I believe that you need to take .625" off the snout of the drum.

Ya sorry, I re read my post....was kinda confusing. The truck that these brakes came from had the mix and match tubes....yes barndoor is different animal all together than post bd.
my question was do we have the correct bearing cap spacer combo for this bus or have to trim drums.

You will definitely have to machine the drums when using type 3 brakes on a short spline axle.

I think its like 5/8" or 3/4" that needs cut off of the snout to put long spline drums on short spline axles.

As for bearing caps. There are several different versions. Make sure you match the tube and cap so that they have the same combined width as the bearing.

I think it's the same as machining early splitting drums and that was 5/8"

The caps and tubes are from the same trans, should be money

Yes caps all jived with other parts and sucked up nice on the bearings. Had a bangin night bolting freshly painted shit up! Shift rods, shifter, ebrake, foot rest, grab bars, steering box, badass OG wheel, and speedo pod all bolted back up with original Kamax big head hardware =D>

I'm going to ditch work this afternoon and pick up our pallet of happyness \:D/ barndoors are waaaaaay higher priority than real work :-"
