Been a while... turns out the pressure plate collar broke. Transmission is out and still at the rebuilder's. Going to rebuild carbs and tidy up the engine and engine bay over the winter while everything is out.
I'm thinking of painting the engine bay. Im going to sand everything I can reach, but what can I do to give the old paint some bite in all the nooks and crannies that are impossible to sand? Something that will corrode the paint some. I was thinking TSP? Someone also suggested CLR? Something that won't poison me.

Also, can I spray straight over the old paint (and bare metal spots)?

CLR is good for rust. Laquer is good for grease. Red scotchbrite is good for paint. You're going to have to sand every square inch you plan to paint with scotchbrite.

I guess there are no shortcuts. Better get sanding.
Thanks, Franz.

This thing is still all apart. Got my transmission back, and now waiting on carbs to get back from rebuilder.
In the meantime I'm going to replace bearings on pass side, notch spring plates to get a little drop, and this...
I guess I'm going to learn how to weld Smile

Got this done on the weekend. Needs top coat. First time cutting/welding.
Got a rusty piece of steel in my eye as a souvenir. Had to get my eye dr to pull it out today!

KW... I doubt Shanman. If it is it will be a very late night on the 8th!

Franz, I had to rebuild the transmission and so many things became easier to do while all that is out, I think I might've gotten a little carried away, but at least it'll be done.
Rebuilding tank. All new hoses. New carbs. All tin was hacked. T4 cooler/shroud. Install missing flaps. Paint engine bay. C notches. Notch plates. New bearings on pass side. Plate rotors... I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
