74 Street/Drag bug

Postby alykat » Mon Aug 17, 2015 12:48 pm

Still trying to thin the herd. Former magazine feature car (DB&HVW Dec.84) Is just sitting in the yard and going nowhere. It needs to go to someone who will restore her to her former glory...or at least fix her up and drive her. Paint is fading, has some nicks and scratches and a few small areas of rust that need immediate attention. Engine is out ( have 2 blocks) and missing a cosiderable amount of parts, but does come with the car. It was parked for many years before I got it and shows evidence of the lack of attention. Still and all, could be back in action quickly. Call to get all the details. John 970-872-4804 $2500

911 operator: What is your emergency ? Me: Some asshole just pulled out in front of me & totaled my car! 911: Are you injured? Me: No. 911: Is the other driver injured ? Me: Not yet....but you should probably send an ambulance.

I had that issue in a box of old Volkswagen magazines my Grandfather gave me as a teenager.

Up date--- Swapped out the junk wheels & tires for a set of Rivs with decent rubber. I was digging around in the shed and uncovered a dual port engine. Tossed it on my hightech engine stand (old buggy pan) and fired it right up. Ran OK and sounded OK, but this was one thing that came with a bunch of other stuff from a guy who was getting out of VWs so history/quality is unknown. I would view it as a running engine that is very possibly in need of a rebuild but may be fine. Coin flip. I'm sure that somewhere in the piles I can locate enough engine tin, heater boxes, muffler, etc.to make it a complete unit. Can go with the car for another $500. I will sell the car without the engine, but not the engine without the car.

I'd really like to see someone get this rig back on the road. Clear title in my name.

These appear to be 73-only Sport Bug seats, which are actually pretty good seats all things considered. I ran a set in my daily driver for several years and I liked them a lot.
