Shouldn't there be a way to calibrate aftermarket fuel gauges like that?

gas gauges work on ohms, chevy or universal is 0-80 ohm. if they run a vw sender with that gauge that could be part of the problem. to adjust the sender you simply bend the arm. the ohm rating is changed by number of rounds of copper wire around the armature. i bet that gauge is 0-80 to bad it would be a bear to get your sending unit out...

An easy test to check the gauge and wiring. Take the sender wire off and ground it, if the gauge pegs full, your wiring and gauge are in good shape.

If you are mixing OCTANES it will always be off. Nice bus by the way!

Happy New Year / more than likely you ran It out of fuel. You streached out that tank of gas way too far for your setup on that bus. Nothing wrong with doing 100 mile ish stops and watching jaws drop.

Not all gauges go full at full ground some are made to still have 10 ohms and japenese cars read backwards and full ground is empty

True that some gauges have no reserve. 1/8 of a tank could leave ya empty. When fuel gauges are installed a good quantity test is in order prior to permanently installing fuel tank and motor. (Oh yea can be very time consuming. ...) Aftermarket Sender's well you do the math even more so check check and double check.........

St George Utah to Searchlight Nevada. Top of the fill tube until fumes following the BBOE. These gas gauges you speak of sound interesting. I can't tell you how many times I have run out of gas.

Dan's mango is in for a new wire harness install. Getting ready for BBB.

The wire harness was melted together years ago by some torch fab work. Its been quirky. A fresh harness install should sort it out.

I don't want to complicate Franz's life just before BBB, so the stroker will come later. This will be the third Havasu trip on the 1915.
